Maybe Peyton Manning couldn’t shake the idea of having a horse in his name after 16 years with the horseshoe on his Colts helmet.
Whatever the case (and there were 95 million reasons apparently), Manning will join the Denver Broncos, considered a longshot when he became a free agent two weeks ago.
Just as the fervor of speculation began when he became available, so too does speculation of what he’ll achieve in a Denver uniform. And what will happen to another favorite target for NFL prop odds, Tim Tebow.
The news immediately shifted Super Bowl future odds and made the Broncos favorites to win the AFC West at 2/3 odds over at Sportsbook. It also shortened Denver’s AFC championship odds to 6/1 odds.
Sportsbook immediately set 4,000 yards as the passing threshold for Manning in 2012. Bettors can pick over or under 4,000, which is tricky given Manning’s recent injury woes.
He is 7/1 to win the NFL MVP and even odds to be Comeback Player of the Year in the NFL.
And what about Tim Tebow, one of sport’s biggest stories in 2011 and one of favorite players for sportsbook prop odds this year?
The Jacksonville Jaguars became early frontrunners to get Tebow, as they were 3/2 odds on Tebow’s next team. Denver has stated they will try to trade him.
However, he is even odds to start Game 1 of the 2012 season, making the ‘no he won’t be a starter on Sportsbook day’ the -140 favorite position.
