Week 6 NFL action kicks off with just a gem of a football game on Thursday when the Panthers host the Eagles in a battle of 4-1 teams. Sportsbooks opened it as a field-goal contest with the Cats favored to win and most of the trends are suggesting they will do just that.
Now with some impressive wins in the can, the Panthers look like they could be back on the same level they were when they went 15-1 and made it to the Super Bowl in 2015. This game against the Eagles is a massive test, though, and it has some serious postseason implications given the current status of the NFC and the Panthers’ division.
Carolina’s offense, which was disjointed at the beginning of the year, seems to have found a groove after two good weeks and Cam Newton has managed to bring his passer rating up to 98.5 for the season. He has, however, yet to post a solid performance at home and he’ll have to march his team out in front of a crowd on Thursday that saw him cough up three interceptions to the New Orleans Saints when he last played at the Bank of America Stadium.
The Panthers lost that game (34-13) and they gave up 149 rushing yards in the process. That was the first and only time all season that they allowed a team to run for more than 80 yards but they’ll face an Eagles rushing attack on TNF that’s averaged the fifth-most rushing yards per game (138.8).
If the Eagles can establish the run with LeGarrette Blount early and keep the Cats off balance with their countless weapons on offense, they’ve got an excellent chance to topple Carolina Cam at home if they can keep Newton under wraps.
