Raiders Host Eagles As Small Home Favorites

Henry Ruggs and the Raiders are favored in NFL betting odds over the Philadelphia Eagles in Sunday NFL action.

The Las Vegas Raiders (4-2 SU, 3-3 ATS) bounced back nicely from a tough week and will try to win consecutive games for the second time on Sunday when they host the Philadelphia Eagles (2-4, 3-3). The Raiders upset the Denver Broncos 34-24 as 5-point road underdogs while the Eagles will have extra rest after falling to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 28-22 in the Week 6 Thursday Night Football game.

Opening Odds Analysis

The point spread and total have both moved up a half-point from the opening numbers, and it will be interesting to see where they close by kickoff. The Las Vegas offense looked reborn with offensive coordinator Greg Olson calling the plays in place of departed head coach Jon Gruden, with the players looking like they had a huge weight lifted off their shoulders, most notably quarterback Derek Carr. Philadelphia trailed Tampa Bay 28-7 midway through the third quarter before rallying to cover the spread on a two-point conversion with 5:54 remaining. Both teams can score here, so the total should hit 50.

Philadelphia News & Notes

The Eagles are in a different position than the Raiders, almost sitting in rebuilding mode right now after the first six weeks, with a new head coach still trying to figure out how to compete at this level and maximize the abilities of second-year quarterback Jalen Hurts.

Nick Sirianni has looked out of his league in losses to the Buccaneers, Kansas City Chiefs, Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers. But Sirianni has also found a way to earn a couple big SU wins as a road dog vs the Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers.

Hurts has been dangerous as a runner and passer for Philadelphia, and Las Vegas has had success against a similar dual-threat quarterback in Lamar Jackson.

Las Vegas News & Notes

The Raiders showed what they are made of in their win over the Broncos and echoed GM Mike Mayock’s sentiments beforehand that they still have a lot to play for, later backing it up on the field with the victory.

Mayock pointed out most interim coaches like Rich Bisaccia take over at the end of the season when a team’s fate has already been decided, and that this is a totally different situation. Unlike their opponent, they are built to win now and must do so consistently in an effort to keep Bisaccia around for the long haul.

While the players seem to love him, the true test will be whether or not he can sustain the success of last week over the long term and actually help Las Vegas make the playoffs.

How Philadelphia Will Cover

First of all, the Eagles are back on the road, where they have picked up both of their wins. There is less pressure on them to win there, which will obviously be the case again at Allegiant Stadium. The Raiders are also coming off a Rocky Mountain high and could be in a flat spot off a divisional road victory or even a bit overconfident before their bye week.

How Las Vegas Will Cover

Focus is the biggest thing Las Vegas needs if the team wants to make the postseason. Sitting at 5-2 going into the bye is a lot better than 4-3 and would keep them in at least a tie atop the AFC West. The Raiders are at their best when Carr can stretch the field with deep threat Henry Ruggs III as well, so covering might be dependent on that connection.
