Miles Sanders and the Eagles are solid road favorites in Eagles-Jets betting odds.

Eagles Look For Rebound In Return To New York

The Philadelphia Eagles (5-7 SU, 6-6 ATS) hope to bounce back from a disappointing road loss to the New York Giants on Sunday when they visit the New York Jets (3-8, 3-8) as solid favorites at sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark. The Eagles fell 13-7 to the Giants last Sunday as 4-point road favorites, losing for the first time in three weeks, with quarterback Jalen Hurts struggling mightily at MetLife Stadium.

Sportsbook Odds Analysis

The point spread is up slightly to Philadelphia -7 in early wagering action with New York still trying to win consecutive games for the first time this year. The Jets are coming off a 21-14 upset victory against the Houston Texans last Sunday as 3-point road underdogs as rookie quarterback Zach Wilson returned under center for the first time in more than a month.

While Wilson was not overly impressive after recovering from a knee injury, he has been on the field for two of the team’s three wins this season. The Eagles may be the more talented team on paper, but they were vs the Giants last week too and could muster just one touchdown behind second-year signal-caller Hurts (three interceptions).

Philadelphia News & Notes

Hurts continues to be more dangerous on the ground than through the air, as his running ability definitely kept Philadelphia alive at New York the first time around. He rushed eight times for 77 yards and completed only 14 of 31 passes for 129 yards, with running back Boston Scott picking up the team’s lone score on a one-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

The Eagles will now need to have a short memory and avoid déjà vu in this spot, playing in the same stadium for the second consecutive week vs a lesser foe.

For Hurts, he needs to rely more on the running game moving forward and not try to do too much with his arm, which seems to get him into trouble with forced balls and such. The running game is as strong as it has been all year with Miles Sanders back in the fold, as he, Scott and Hurts combined for 205 rushing yards on 32 carries (6.4 yards per carry).

New York News & Notes

While Wilson may not have been the reason New York pulled off the upset at Houston, having the team’s quarterback of the future back certainly did not hurt there.

Instead, the Jets did a great job taking pressure off him by running the ball, splitting carries between veteran Tevin Coleman and youngsters Ty Johnson and Austin Walter. Between the three of them, they rushed for 147 yards on 31 carries and one touchdown, and Wilson added another score on the ground as well.

Even without injured rookie Michael Carter, New York head coach Robert Saleh realized he still had the ability to run the ball effectively with Coleman, Johnson and Walter, and he definitely deserves credit for keeping the game plan simple. Saleh’s defense also played very well against a comparable opponent.

How Philadelphia Will Cover

Hurts was looking like Philadelphia’s franchise quarterback during the team’s two-game winning streak, but he is still young and must rely on others to help him out. If the Eagles dedicate themselves to running the ball even more, they can be successful and cover.

How New York Will Cover

For the Jets, they just need to continue staying the course and keeping it simple. They are not going to the playoffs this year but can start building for the future by being competitive on both sides of the ball. If they can do that again here, they can cover.
