Philadelphia Eagles vs Washington Redskins

Eagles are going OVER on the road with ease

Thanks to a huge 32-30 triumph over the Houston Texans on Sunday, the Eagles’ postseason hopes are very much alive. Philly is the only club that can steal an NFC playoff spot – by beating the Redskins in this game and having the Minnesota Vikings lose to the Chicago Bears. With the Seahawks topping the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 16, they’ve already booked their ticket to the playoffs and now it’s going to come down to Philadelphia and Minnesota for the final wild-card berth.

For totals bettors, the OVER might be worth a shot in this one due to Philadelphia’s penchant for going OVER on the road. The Eagles have eclipsed the closing total in six of their last eight games with an average combined score of 55.6 points.

It’s been another lost season in D.C.

Philadelphia’s last-second win over Houston eliminated Washington from playoff contention, but the Redskins didn’t do themselves any favors in their 25-16 loss to the Tennessee Titans in Week 16. Quarterback Josh Johnson came up short on the final drive of the game by throwing a brutal pick-six that caused a massive swing for totals bettors, as the six points led to the OVER hitting despite the UNDER looking like a lock for the majority of the game. Washington still managed to cover the closing +11.5 spread, though.

This time of the year, teams that know they won’t be going to the playoffs have a tendency to mail it in, and it’s hard to find any motivation for the 7-8 Redskins right now. Betting trends indicate they may be in stay-away territory, as the ’Skins are 1-5 SU in their previous six games as underdogs and 1-6 ATS in their past seven after consecutive ATS wins. On the flip side, the Eagles are 4-1 SU in their last five against divisional opponents on the road.

My pick: take the UNDER

Anyone who bet the UNDER in the Redskins’ loss to the Titans last week may be terrified to back it going forward, but this looks like a prime UNDER game in my eyes. The Washington offense has been hot and cold all year long and I just don’t expect the Redskins to have much drive in this one.

The Eagles are another tough team to trust but for some reason they continue to win behind backup Nick Foles. I expect this one to stay relatively low-scoring in what could be an ugly one, so take the UNDER.
