  • Fresh off an appearance in the 2017 AFC championship game, the Jacksonville Jaguars looked to be on the verge of big things when the 2018 NFL season began. It’s been the opposite story for the 3-6 SU Jaguars, however, as Blake Bortles and company have dropped five straight games ahead of a home date with the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 11. Sportsbooks opened the Jags as 5.5-point home underdogs with a total of 47.5.

    • The total has gone UNDER in three of the Steelers’ last four games vs the Jaguars (avg. combined score: 45.5).
    • The Steelers are 9-0-1 SU in their last 10 games on the road (avg. winning margin: 7.9).
    • The Jaguars are 0-5 SU in their last five games (avg. losing margin: 14.2).

    Bortles simply hasn’t been good enough

    The Jaguars have struggled across the board this season, but Bortles’ play under center certainly hasn’t given his team a chance to win week in and week out. The Central Florida product is completing just 61.3 percent of his passes for an average of 250 yards per game, and his 3:2 touchdown-to-interception ratio ranks among the worst in the NFL. Bortles also possesses an underwhelming 84.9 passer rating that’s 26th in the league.

    Some good news for both Jaguars fans and bettors alike is the return of running back Leonard Fournette, who missed six games with a lingering hamstring injury. Fournette came back in Jacksonville’s 29-26 loss to the Indianapolis Colts last week and scored two touchdowns – one through the air and one on the ground.

    Totals bettors will want to pay close attention to this one, as both teams have a penchant for participating in relatively low-scoring affairs. In the last four meetings between the Steelers and Jaguars, the UNDER is 3-1, with an average combined score of 45.5 points. The UNDER is also 11-4 in Jacksonville’s past 15 games when playing in the early afternoon slate.

    Steelers are rolling at the right time

    After enduring a few bumps in the road in the early going of the season, the Steelers once again look like a legitimate contender in the AFC. Pittsburgh is +1000 to win the Super Bowl – fifth-best on the odds list – and is the runaway favorite to win the AFC North.

    The Steelers have had no issue getting the job done in the Sunshine State, going 4-1 SU in their last five trips to Jacksonville. Overall, the Steelers have been road warriors dating back to last season, going 9-0-1 SU in their previous 10 road games, with an average winning margin of 7.9 points.

    My pick: take the Steelers on the road

    The Jaguars have been the definition of fade material lately, and it’s looking like Jacksonville’s issues are simply too many to fix in order to salvage what’s looking like a lost season for the club. The Steelers have proven they have what it takes to win away from home on a consistent basis, and with Ben Roethlisberger and James Conner firing on all cylinders right now, I don’t expect them to slow down any time soon.
