Rapid Capping Of The 2017 Thanksgiving Day Games

I know you want to maximize your holiday time on Thanksgiving. So I handicapped the three NFL games in rapid fashion for you with my picks for each game. This is about a three-minute read and will leave you prepped for your plays on Thursday.

Vikings at Lions +3, 44.5

I feel like I say it every week: the Vikings keep getting small spreads and they keep covering them. They’re now 29-10 ATS in their last 39 games where they’ve been set anywhere from a 3-point fave to a 3-point dog. So this one is an easy play for me. This one opened as a pick’em so bettors seem to agree. The Lions are tied with the Titans as the top OVER bet in the NFL at 7-3 O/U. Why? They’re the No. 5 scoring offense in the league and own the No. 26 scoring D at home. Overlooked this season is that Case Keenum has a 65.7 percent completion rate and he’s only been sacked five times. This Minny O-line should match up well against a defensive front allowing 167 yards rushing per game over its last three for the Lions.

 Chargers at Cowboys +1, 48

This line briefly opened at Dallas -4 and bettors couldn’t smash the Chargers fast enough. I guess they noticed this Cowboys team has had its three worst scoring outputs the last two seasons with no Ezekiel Elliott. Dak Prescott has zero TDs, 3 INTs and just over 300 yards in two games since Zeke started his suspension. Both games went UNDER too, so I think we can expect this total to drop prior to kickoff. The Chargers have covered five of their last six games, thanks largely to a bend-but-don’t-break D that gives up yards but ranks tops in the NFL in giving up TDs in the red zone. This Cowboys D-line on the other hand hasn’t forced an offensive holding penalty in 29 quarters. But this Chargers O-line is really banged up (including starting center Spencer Pulley) and is on short rest. I’ll take the UNDER. The Cowboys are 27-18 SU and 17-16 ATS in our database on Thanksgiving, fyi.

Giants at Redskins -7.5, 45

Faves of 7 points or more on Thanksgiving are 13-1 SU and 11-3 ATS the last 10 seasons and 22-7 and 19-10 ATS since 1984. But I hesitate to take the fave here because they are forced to start third-string center Tony Bergstrom, who just joined the roster on Monday. I can’t stress the importance of this injury enough on a short week. The Skins defense can’t bail anyone out after allowing at least 31 points in four of their last five games. So I don’t know what to think of this game against an awful Giants team that has lost the yardage battle in seven straight games. I’m gonna say Giants. Barf.
