Ryan-Led Falcons Have Been an Awful Bet in the Playoffs

At the age of 31, Matt Ryan is already the most celebrated quarterback in Atlanta Falcons history for a variety of reasons. For sports bettors, he’s been an absolute train wreck in the playoffs.

“Matty Ice” is the Falcons’ all-time leader in passing yards at 37,701, well in front of No. 2 Steve Bartkowski (23,470). The Boston College product just recently broke his own record for passing yards in a season and is the undisputed MVP favorite. With that said, he’s going to have to exorcise some major postseason demons vs the Seattle Seahawks this weekend.

The Falcons are 1-4 SU in five playoff appearances behind Ryan, but they’ve gone a brutal 0-5 ATS in that span. Sportsbooks opened Atlanta as 3.5-point home favorites for the divisional round contest.

Atlanta has always been an offense-first team, but this year’s edition has taken things to a new level. The Falcons are the highest-scoring club in the NFL at 33.8 points per game and rank second in total yards (415.8). Their defense leaves much to be desired, but as Rob Trites points out in his Falcons-Seahawks preview, if Russell Wilson can’t keep up with Ryan early, it might not matter.

Here’s a look at Ryan’s past playoff failures at the betting window. Do you think he can buck that trend on Saturday, or are the Seahawks going to conjure up some more magic in January?
