Sportsbook Odds Analysis

The 49ers opened as a 4-point favorite before moving down slightly to San Francisco -3.5. The movement on the total was much more substantial as heavy action on the OVER on the Sportsbook line of 46.5 points has driven Sunday’s total up to 50 points. The OVER is 4-2 in San Francisco’s last six games.

San Francisco News & Notes

On the bright side, the 49ers came out of Week 1 with a 41-33 win over the Detroit Lions. But the win came with some baggage as Raheem Mostert injured his knee and cornerback Jason Verrett was lost for the season with an ACL injury. San Francisco’s thin secondary could not afford an injury like this to a player of Verrett’s caliber, as was indicated by the Lions erasing the 49ers’ 28-point lead and coming within 24 yards of a potential game-tying touchdown.

One of the bright spots in the win was rookie running back Elijah Mitchell, who rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries in relief of Mostert. Daily fantasy sports players and prop bettors looking for an undervalued running back in Week 2 might consider giving Mitchell a look against the Eagles.

Philadelphia News & Notes

The Jalen Hurts era in Philadelphia couldn’t have gotten off to a much better start. Hurts was fantastic in his first start of 2021, going 27-for-35 with 264 passing yards, 62 rushing yards, three passing touchdowns and no interceptions. The 23-year-old spread the ball around well with seven different receivers catching at least two passes and three different receivers catching touchdown passes.

And no one could have seen this defensive performance coming. The Eagles allowed 363.1 total yards and 26.1 points per game last season and are expected to be a work-in-progress this season, but this group held the Atlanta Falcons to just 260 total yards and six points in the Eagles’ 32-6 win as 4.5-point underdogs last week.

San Francisco offers a significant step up in competition from Atlanta, so we’ll soon get a better idea of how good this Eagles team really is.

Staff Betting Pick: OVER 50 points

Bettors pounding the OVER this week have the right idea. Jalen Hurts has the mobility to avoid trouble and take advantage of San Francisco’s weakened secondary, and San Francisco’s offensive line should dominate this matchup. Look for both teams to light up the scoreboard in this one.
