Seahawks Return From Bye Trying to Stay Perfect as Road Faves

DK Metcalf shoves off a defender after scoring a touchdown for the Seahawks.

The NFC West-leading Seattle Seahawks will visit the Arizona Cardinals as small road favorites on Sunday night after entering their bye at 5-0 straight up and 4-1 against the spread. The Cardinals are coming off a 38-10 rout of the Dallas Cowboys as 1-point road underdogs in the Week 6 Monday Night Football matchup to improve to 4-2 SU and ATS.

Opening Odds Analysis

Predictably, the point spread has moved up slightly in favor of Seattle at -3.5 via some sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark, and rightfully so. While Arizona turned in a great performance on MNF, bettors should consider the competition and realize this team is now playing on a short week against a rested opponent that is off a bye. For that reason, it would not be surprising to see the Seahawks move up to -4 or higher before kickoff. Also worth noting is that the total has already jumped two points from the opener to 56.5.

Seattle News & Notes

Many experts have Seattle pegged as the best team in the NFL thanks to a perfect record and the MVP favorite in quarterback Russell Wilson. The problem is, the expectations are so high for the Seahawks that there is nowhere to go but down – unless of course they keep winning and covering the spread.

The biggest weakness for them remains a porous defense that ranks dead last in the league in yards allowed with 471.2 per game, including an NFL-worst 370.4 through the air.

Seattle simply cannot continue to play that poorly defensively in order to make another Super Bowl run, although Wilson’s numbers would likely become even more inflated because he would be required to do even more on offense. This will be a good test, though, on the road against a tough divisional opponent.

Arizona News & Notes

The Cardinals have picked up their biggest wins of the season away from home so far, making this almost a must-win situation if they have hopes of winning the NFC West.

Arizona quarterback Kyler Murray did not have to throw the ball much at Dallas last week, completing nine of 24 passes for 188 yards with two touchdowns that went to wide receiver Christian Kirk for a total of 86 yards. Murray also ran 10 times for 74 yards and added a rushing touchdown, showing how dangerous he is as a runner as well.

Defensively, the Cardinals turned in a solid effort vs the Cowboys in limiting them to 10 points, but again you need to take that with a grain of salt and consider their opponent was playing with Andy Dalton under center and not Dak Prescott. This will be a much bigger challenge.

Betting Pick: OVER 56.5

The betting trends might say otherwise, but I really do not know how there will not be over 60 points scored in this game. Each team is easily capable of putting up at least 30 points on the scoreboard, and I expect the winning team to hit 40 in this spot. Take the OVER.
