Seahawks Rams Week 14 betting preview

Rams Rout Cardinals, Home Dogs to Seahawks

Seattle scored 27 second-half points in rallying to beat the Vikings 37-30 and extend their winning streak to five games. With the home dub, the Seahawks took over first place in the NFC West and improved to 10-2 overall and 7-5 against the spread.

Jared Goff carved up the Cardinals secondary for 424 yards and the Rams bounced back from a rocky three-game stretch to win 34-7 over Arizona and improve to 7-5 SU and 8-4 ATS.

Sportsbook Odds Analysis

The Seahawks opened as 3-point road favorites, but saw the consensus spread dip to Seattle -1 by Tuesday morning. The Rams moneyline opened at +114 and the point total at 46.5. The total has gone OVER in the last four Seahawks-Rams meetings with an average combined score of 59.75 points.

Seattle -1.5 beat the visiting Rams 30-29 back in Week 5 but failed to cover. With their cover against the Vikings, the Seahawks are 5-1 ATS in their last six night games.

During the Jared Goff era, the Rams are 0-3 SU and 0-2-1 ATS when home dogs of 3 or fewer points. However, Los Angeles is also 0-5 SU and 0-5 ATS with five consecutive OVERS hit when a home dog of 7 or fewer points.

Seattle News & Notes

As has been the case around the league in recent weeks, the flu bug ripped through the Seattle locker room last week. It didn’t seem to faze Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny, who combined to rush 38 times for 176 yards and two scores. Penny added four receptions for 33 yards and another touchdown. The Rams allowed Mark Ingram and Gus Edwards to combine for a 29-166-1 rush line two weeks ago, while Lamar Jackson chipped in 95 rush yards.

Seattle’s ability to convert seven of 15 third downs and win the turnover battle 3-2 allowed Pete Carroll’s crew to dominate time of possession 40-20. That advantage also helped the Seahawks beat the Rams in their first meeting.

While they’ll continue to lean on the run, it was Russell Wilson’s arm that led Seattle to its 30-29 win over the Rams. Wilson completed 17 of 23 passes for 268 yards and four touchdowns in an incredibly efficient performance. It’s worth noting that his leading receiver on that night was tight end Will Dissly, who is now on injured reserve. Jacob Hollister has filled the role in recent weeks and actually led the Seahawks in targets (8) against the Vikings, finishing with six receptions for 44 yards.

Los Angeles News & Notes

A week after getting throttled by Baltimore 45-6, Jared Goff passed for 424 yards and two touchdowns*, Todd Gurley rushed for 95 yards and a touchdown* and Robert Woods posted a season-high 172 yards* in a 34-7 victory.

* It all happened against the 3-8-1 Arizona Cardinals with Kyler Murray nursing a bad hamstring.

I kid, but all faith should not be lost on the Rams heading into their second Seahawks matchup because as the following chart indicates, Los Angeles is in prime position to post those stats again.

As you can see, the Seahawks will yield some yards but find a way to get off the field on third down. The Rams converted just three of 11 third downs in the first meeting and lost the turnover margin 2-1 and time of possession 35-25.

On the injury front, tight end Gerald Everett and tackle Rob Havenstein are questionable with knee injuries, while defensive back Darious Williams is questionable with a bad ankle.

Betting Pick: OVER 46.5

The Seahawks are averaging 29.6 points per game during their five-game win streak and the Rams once allowed the Buccaneers to score 55 and, more recently, the Ravens to rack up 45 points on their home turf. All signs point to these trends continuing and Los Angeles – with Brandin Cooks and Robert Woods active – keeping pace with their NFC West rival.
