  • The New York Giants refuse to go quietly after starting the season 1-7 SU and will look to win their third game in a row for the first time since November 2016 when they host the Tennessee Titans in Week 15. The Giants have won four of their last five games and have the tiniest percentage of a chance to make the postseason while the Titans sit at 7-6 SU in 13 games and control their own destiny in the AFC playoff hunt.

    The Giants opened as 3-point favorites (since moved to -1) with a total of 43.5.

    The Giants are the Worst Home Spread Bet In the NFL

    Coming off a decisive road win over the Deadskins in which they dropped 40 points for their highest scoring output of the season, the Giants may have a look of a frisky team to be reckoned with. But I’m here to pour water on the celebration as their recent wins may need to be taken with a grain of salt. Their last four wins were vs Washington (no quarterback), Chicago (no quarterback), Tampa Bay (awful quarterback) and San Francisco (no quarterback). Sensing a theme here?

    At MetLife Stadium, the Giants have been a train wreck and have been draining bettors’ bank accounts if you backed them. They’re 1-4-1 ATS in six home games (2-4 SU) this season and the only glimmer of hope on their roster is the beast known as Saquon Barkley. The rookie running back has been a force and has six touchdowns and an average of 134.5 yards rushing over the last four games. I tend to think he’s matchup-proof and it helps that the Titans are below average stopping the run (ranked 17th – 115.2 yards per game).

    If I had to pick, I’d likely side with the Giants moneyline rather than for them to cover the points based on their track record this season of stinking up the joint on their home field. If Eli Manning can get out of his own way and allow the offense to go exclusively through Saquon, the Giants have a shot to win their third game in a row, especially since Odell Beckham Jr. has been ruled out for Week 15.

    Titans Are Brutal on the Road but Defense Has Been Stingy

    Putting the nail in the coffin for the Jaguars’ season had to feel good for a Titans squad that has had some serious ups and downs this season. Tennessee may be the definition of bipolar when it comes to NFL teams. The Titans have gone into Arlington and knocked off the Cowboys and they’ve walloped the Patriots at home. But they’ve also lost to Buffalo (13-12) and have been smoked by double digits by the Texans and Colts.

    So, let’s look at the positives as the Titans defense certainly has been the straw that stirs the drink:

    • Fourth in points allowed per game
    • Sixth in passing yards allowed per game
    • Fourth in total first downs allowed
    • Fifth in third downs converted
    • Third in passing touchdowns allowed
    • Fifth in rushing touchdowns allowed

    On the offensive side of the ball is where you see the glaring weaknesses:

    • 27th in points scored per game
    • 28th in passing yards per game
    • 28th in total first downs
    • 28th in passing touchdowns
    • Third in total sacks taken

    Aside from how the offense/defense has performed, the Titans have also been a brutal road bet this season and dating back to last year. They’re 2-5 SU in seven road games this season and were 3-5 SU in eight games last year and their offense has been abysmal in 2018. This data along with the eye test of watching them on the road makes me tend to believe that they’ll be hard pressed to escape New York with the W.

    Totals Bettors Getting Paid from Giants Games Lately

    The total opened at 43.5 and trends are pointing to an OVER in the Big Apple. The OVER has hit in four of the Giants’ last five games with an average combined score of 56.6 points per game. The OVER has also hit in the Titans’ last three games with an average combined score of 46 points per game.

    My Pick Is…

    To take the OVER. I can’t trust either of these teams on the spread and I expect both teams to air it out and try to take advantage of tired defenses this late in the season.
