Vick, Romo status affect NFL spreads

Philadelphia’s Michael Vick is among the biggest names on the injury watch list this week as football bettors try to assess his and other key players’ statuses for this weekend's action.

Vick (concussion) is currently considered questionable for Sunday’s home game against the Giants, which still hasn’t received an opening spread at 5Dimes as bookmakers wait for more information on the quarterback. With backup QB Vince Young (hamstring) also coming off an injury, third-stringer Mike Kafka could start. Whoever starts probably won’t have to deal with Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora, who is considered doubtful with a knee injury.

A slew of injuries to the Dallas Cowboys have also halted opening lines for their Monday night game against the Washington Redskins. Quarterback Tony Romo is considered probable to play after suffering a rib injury last week, but many of his key weapons are banged up with Dez Bryant (thigh) and Felix Jones (shoulder) both considered questionable and Miles Austin (hamstring) not expected to be available this week.

Oakland is a 3.5-point home underdog against the New York Jets at 5Dimes this Sunday, and could still be without starting wideouts Darrius Heyward-Bey (knee), Jacoby Ford (hamstring), and Louis Murphy (hamstring). The Raiders, however, should get back tight end Kevin Boss. New York will be without center Nick Mangold (ankle), which could hurt the pass and run blocking.

The Denver Broncos are a 7.5-point underdogs on the road against Tennessee this week at 5Dimes, and they are also banged up with key offensive starters Brandon Lloyd (groin) and Knowshon Moreno (hamstring) both nursing injuries, and defensive leader Champ Bailey considered questionable to play this week.

St. Louis hopes to avoid an 0-3 record Sunday when they host the Baltimore Ravens, but they may have to do so without starting running back Steven Jackson (quad) and top wide receiver Danny Amendola (elbow). St. Louis is a 3.5-point home underdog at 5Dimes.

As well, keep an eye on Houston’s Arian Foster (hamstring) this week, as the running back was held out of practice on Wednesday and might end up sitting out against the Saints on Sunday. At 5Dimes the Saints are pegged as 4-point home favorites for that contest.
