Washington Had No Answers For Philadelphia’s Defense

Carson Wentz was sacked nine times in last Sunday’s 24-8 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, fumbling the ball twice and losing one of those fumbles. Wentz finished the day going 25-for-43 with 211 passing yards and no touchdown passes, and in total the Commanders generated only 240 yards of offense. Terry McLaurin had the team’s best day on offense with six catches and 102 receiving yards.

The Commanders opened the 2022 season with a promising 28-22 win at home as 3-point favorites against the Jacksonville Jaguars but have since lost back-to-back games with Sunday’s loss to Philadelphia and a 36-27 loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 2. Washington’s defense gave up 340 passing yards and three touchdown passes to Jalen Hurts in the loss and is allowing 27.3 points per game this season.

Cooper Rush Has Kept The Cowboys In Contention

Dallas’ season opener went about as poorly as it could go – the offense looked lethargic in a 19-3 loss at home to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and quarterback Dak Prescott was lost for at least a month with a thumb injury.

But instead of unraveling, the Cowboys bounced back with a 20-17 win as 7-point home underdogs against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2 and then picked up a 23-16 win on Monday night over the New York Giants as 1-point road underdogs.

Backup quarterback Cooper Rush has been steady in his two starts for the Cowboys, going 40-for-62 for 450 passing yards with two touchdown passes and no interceptions in Dallas’ two upset wins. Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard also played a key role in the two wins, combining for 147 total yards against the Bengals and 180 total yards against the Giants.

Commanders: Keys To Victory

Washington has an extremely talented wide receiving corps in Terry McLaurin, Curtis Samuel and Jahan Dotson. But to make it easier for Carson Wentz to get the ball to those receivers and to pick up a win, the Commanders may need to do a better job of establishing their running game.

Cowboys: Keys To Victory

The Commanders rank 21st in the NFL in rushing defense, allowing 128.7 rushing yards per game. If Ezekiel Elliott and Tony Pollard continue to run the ball well this Sunday, it should translate to a victory as a Commanders vs Cowboys pick in this rivalry game.
