  • There are four winless teams remaining in the NFL. With two of them, Washington and Miami, facing off in Week 6, that number will likely drop to three. In a matchup between two inept clubs, the visiting Redskins are a modest favorite … but are they a good bet?

    Sportsbook Odds Analysis

    The spread makes sense, for as bad as Washington has been, Miami has been historically terrible. Bettors quickly jumped on the home underdog, however, as the spread has shifted to 3.5 points. The low total of 41 is also appropriate for two offenses lacking any sort of talent, and has stayed firm thus far.

    Washington News & Notes

    On the field, it’s a familiar script: the Redskins come out feisty and hang around early in games, but ultimately get crushed by their opponent, just as they did in a 33-7 loss last week to the New England Patriots.

    Off the field, however, it’s a roller-coaster of emotion. There’s persistent quarterback controversy every week, but now they can also add a coaching change as Jay Gruden was relieved of his duties, with Bill Callahan taking over in the interim.

    While Callahan hasn’t firmly stated who his starting signal-caller will be for Week 6, he has said he’s not going to anoint first-round pick Dwayne Haskins as the starter just yet. That means it’s either veterans Colt McCoy or Case Keenum trying to get Washington its first win of the season.

    Considering they have the fifth-fewest yards per game, third-fewest points per game and are tied for the NFL lead in interceptions and turnovers, the Redskins have to hope the coaching change gives them some sort of spark to break their string of four straight ATS losses.

    Miami News & Notes

    The good news for the Dolphins is they didn’t lose last week … only because they were on their bye week. Otherwise, things have also been terribly bleak for a team that’s been outscored by 137 points this season, the NFL’s largest four-game differential since 1940.

    Chances are Miami put a big focus on playing a full 60 minutes during the bye week: the Dolphins have been outscored 81-0 in the second half so far this season.

    The one bright spot in their last game, a 30-10 loss to the Chargers in Week 4, is that quarterback Josh Rosen went 12-of-16 for 169 yards with a touchdown and no turnovers in the first half. Unfortunately he was 3-of-8 for 11 yards in the second half, but if he can play four quarters against Washington that are closer to his Los Angeles first half, the Dolphins may have a shot to win as an underdog … or at least cover the spread, something they haven’t done in their last six games.
