If there’s ever a time that Nick Foles is considered a franchise quarterback, that time is now. The 29-year-old just played the game of his life for the Philadelphia Eagles and took home Super Bowl 52 MVP honors after ousting the New England Patriots.
But will the Eagles try to strike while the iron is hot and deal him out of Philly? Online sportsbooks are offering odds on where Foles will play next season and while there are many franchises seeking stability at the quarterback position, the leader on the oddsboard is the City of Brotherly Love.
The only way Foles is leaving Philadelphia would be via trade and no team in the NFL has more draft assets than the Cleveland Browns.
The Eagles are listed at +135 at BetOnline to retain Foles for the 2018 season and it may be the smart move for the Super Bowl champions. Foles has a cap hit of $7.6 million in the final year of his contract next season and with the uncertainty of Carson Wentz’s recovery from knee surgery, the Eagles will have a tough decision to make considering that is a high price tag for a “backup” quarterback.
The only way Foles is leaving Philadelphia would be via trade and no team in the NFL has more draft assets than the Cleveland Browns. The Dawg Pound, listed at +500, has two top-five picks in the upcoming draft and a plethora of other picks in subsequent rounds that could entice the Eagles to make a move and retool going into 2018.
Other teams that could be in the running for Foles include the Cardinals at +400, the Jets at +525, the Broncos at +800 and the Vikings at +1000. The Cardinals and Jets are desperate for a starting quarterback and may need to make a move regardless of their draft position in June.
For the Broncos and Vikings, both of these teams have GMs who have been known to wheel and deal (Peyton Manning and Sam Bradford, anyone?) and have rosters stocked with blue-chippers at every level.
