Where Will Kaepernick Play Next Season?

There was a time, not that long ago, when Colin Kaepernick was the starting quarterback on a Super Bowl-caliber team. Boy, things have changed.

Kaepernick found himself on the outs with the turnstile of coaches in San Francisco once Jim Harbaugh left for Michigan. The Nevada product has spent the past two seasons fighting with Blaine Gabbert for the starting quarterback job in San Fran.

After the end of the 2016 season, Kaepernick decided to opt out of his contract. Currently a free agent, his future seems muddy at best. A lot has been made out of his national anthem protests last season and some teams seem like they don’t want to invite any potential conflict into their locker rooms.

The Seattle Seahawks have been one of the few teams to emerge as a potential landing spot for Kaepernick. The Seahawks could use a mobile backup to step in behind Russell Wilson if ever an injury were to occur and the club has plenty of familiarity with Kaepernick thanks to his tenure with the 49ers.

Seattle also doesn’t have much in terms of quarterback depth. Trevone Boykin was the No. 2 last season but found himself arrested twice in an 11-day span during the offseason. The Seahawks didn’t carry a third QB last season either, so right now they really only have Wilson.

Several other teams need quarterback depth — the Tampa Bay Buccaneers come to mind — but at this point, Kaepernick might be waiting until a training camp injury hits.
