Who Will The Browns Start In Week 1?

NFL fans once again get the luxury of trying to predict who will be the Cleveland Browns’ starting quarterback come Week 1. It is akin to the worst lottery in sports.

There are four quarterbacks on the Browns roster, all of whom have some argument to be the starter. The early front-runner appears to be Brock Osweiler. The tall gunslinger was a complete disaster during his one season in Houston but the coaching staff is giving him the starting nod in the first preseason game. According to ESPN Stats and Info, whichever QB has been the starter in the first preseason game has gone on to be the Week 1 starter for the Browns in every season since 2004.

Oddsmakers have tabbed their own favorite, as Cody Kessler is -165 to earn the starting gig per online book MyBookie. During his rookie campaign, Kessler started eight games while completing 65.6 percent of his passes. However, the USC alum has seemingly struggled through training camps and could not consistently move the offense during scrimmages. Kessler will be the backup for the Browns’ first preseason game.

Third on that depth chart will be rookie DeShone Kizer (+800). Kizer was drafted in the second round this year and has the size, mobility and arm strength to be a legit starter in the NFL. It likely isn’t wise for the Browns to rush Kizer along and start him in Week 1 but his ceiling is easily the highest of any quarterback on the Browns roster.
