Bridgewater the favorite to be quarterback of the Vikings in 2018 season

The Minnesota Vikings were a great story this season. Led by a backup (and afterthought) quarterback in Case Keenum, the Vikings were 13-3 and made it to the NFC championship game before being stomped by the Philadelphia Eagles.

But will the Vikings want another kick at the can with Keenum at QB next season? Well, online sportsbook Bovada is offering odds on who will take snaps behind center at the start of next season for the Vikes and Teddy Bridgewater is the favorite at +150 to lead Mike Zimmer’s squad in Week 1 in 2018.

The Vikings were very high on Bridgewater when they drafted him at the end of the first round in 2014 but after he suffered a career-threatening knee injury, the Vikings panicked and brought in Sam Bradford and Keenum. Bridgewater said he sees himself as a starter next season and if his health holds up, the Vikings should seriously consider re-signing him if the price is right.

Surprisingly, Any Other Player is listed as the second-best odds for bettors at +175 and that means the Vikings would try to scoop up a quarterback who may be on the outs with his current squad such as Kirk Cousins, Tyrod Taylor or Alex Smith. Finances shouldn’t be an issue either as the Vikings have over $52 million in cap space going into the offseason.

Kennum, the Rams retread and one half of the “Minnesota Miracle” connection, is listed at +200 but it doesn’t seem like he may be back next season. Keenum is a free agent and has mentioned in interviews that “it was a great run” and he may get bigger offers from other quarterback-starved franchises like the Broncos or Jets. At +200, it may not be worth the value.

There is also the final option of drafting a quarterback from this year’s crop, which is available at +1000. The Vikings may only be one or two pieces away from being in contention for a long time and GM Rick Spielman has not been shy about trading draft picks for a starting quarterback (see Sam Bradford at +500).

Who will be the starting QB for the Vikings for Game 1 of the 2018 Regular Season?
  • Teddy Bridgewater +150
  • Any Other Player +175
  • Case Keenum +200
  • Sam Bradford +500
  • 2018 Draft Pick +1000
