Will Josh McDaniels bolt from the Patriots for the New York Giants?

Once Eli Manning was benched, you knew Ben McAdoo was a goner. The New York Giants head coach was fired just before Week 14 and in an instant, one of the most high-profile coaching gigs in the NFL became available. Sportsbooks are offering odds on who will take the job and familiar faces from New England lead the pack.

Offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels currently ranks as the front-runner at +150 to be the next head coach of the Giants on Bovada. The 41-year-old has been described as an offensive savant by some of his peers in the NFL and has been Bill Belichick’s right-hand man for nearly a decade.  He’s held the coordinator position in New England since 2006 and came back to the Pats after a short two-season stint as the head coach of the Denver Broncos in 2009-10 where he finished 11-17 before being fired.

McDaniels’ name has routinely been mentioned for head coaching positions in recent offseasons but Bovada has odds listed for some other potential candidates, including his defensive counterpart, Matt Patricia at +200. Both would be in line to lead a team that is willing to spend in free agency and could be armed with the quarterback of the future after the 2018 NFL draft.

Other candidates for a franchise that has only had six head coaches since 1983 are Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz (+200), Vikings offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur (+650) and Broncos running backs coach Eric Studesville (+900), who remarkably has kept the same position in Denver through four coaching regimes.

  • Josh McDaniels +150
  • Matt Patricia +200
  • Jim Schwartz +200
  • Pat Shurmur +650
  • Eric Studesville +900
