Will the Cleveland Browns Go Winless This Season?

In this world, nothing can be said to be certain except death, taxes and the Cleveland Browns posting losing seasons. I’m pretty sure that’s how that quote goes.

Ahead of the Week 16 NFL slate, what’s old is new again for the 2017 edition of the Browns — they’re a bad football team. Cleveland, which owned a 0-14 SU record as of this writing, is the only winless club in the league. The Browns had a great opportunity to finally earn a win against the Aaron Rodgers-less Green Bay Packers in Week 14 and even led 21-7 in the third quarter before succumbing in a 27-21 overtime loss. Such is life in the Factory of Sadness.

Since the franchise came back to Northeast Ohio in 1999, the Browns have had 28 different players start at quarterback, including DeShone Kizer and Kevin Hogan, who’ve taken snaps under center this season. In that stretch, Tim Couch is the only man to start all 16 games in a season, doing so in 2001.

With games against the Chicago Bears and Pittsburgh Steelers left on the docket, time is running out for Cleveland to collect its first W. Bovada has odds on the Browns going 0-16 this year, with the YES option available at -300 and the NO at +200.

In the 16-game regular-season era, the dreadful 2008 Detroit Lions are the only squad to fail to win a single game, which means the Browns could join some not-so-elite company if they lose out.

Even if you’re a fan of a team that considers them a rival, you have to feel bad for the Browns. Hey, there’s always next year!

The definition of “tanking” in professional sports is to lose games on purpose with the intent of achieving the highest draft pick possible. In the ever-changing NFL landscape, one thing remains the same: the tank is real.

Through five weeks of action in the 2017 football season, three teams remain winless: the Cleveland Browns, San Francisco 49ers and New York Giants. Of the three, only the Browns and 49ers were expected to be bottom-feeders at the start of the year. Injuries and poor play have ravaged the Giants to the point of seemingly no return.

So, what are the odds one of the aforementioned clubs ends up with a goose egg in the win column when all is said and done? BetOnline has tabbed the Browns with a +800 chance of losing every game, with the Giants (+950) and 49ers (+1200) even more lucrative. The shop also has a prop available on if any team will go 0-16, with the YES option coming in at +300.

In the era of the 16-game regular season, the 2008 Detroit Lions are in exclusive company as the only franchise with the distinction of failing to win a single game.

What do you think? Are these teams beyond hopeless, or is there a chance none of them end up going winless? Have your say in the comments.
