Brad Marchand's Bruins are favored in the Boston vs Philadelphia Odds - Oct 20.

Boston Opens Up Road Trip At Wells Fargo Center

The Bruins got their season off to a hot start this past weekend. They secured a convincing two points at home against the Stars. Brad Marchand had a particularly excellent evening, netting two on the way to victory. Three points in two games is a decent haul for the Flyers after two games. Philadelphia is fresh off a battering of Seattle by a score of 6-1.

Sportsbook Odds Analysis

Both teams are coming into this one with a head of steam. This Eastern Conference clash will be an enticing one as both teams shared the East Division last year. They will certainly be well acquainted with one another. Boston is the favorite to take this one and given their recent success in the matchup (7-2-1), it’s no surprise. Due to Philadelphia's previous result, the total has risen to 6.5 from the Sportsbook position of 5.5.

Boston Bruins News & Notes

For the first time in nine years, someone not named Tuuka Rask started a season opener for the Bruins. It looks like it's Jeremy Swayman’s spot to lose for the moment. The 22-year-old was excellent, stopping 27 of 28 shots against Dallas. After only playing 10 games last year the Bruins are looking for him to seize the starting spot. He’ll be a vital part of this team’s success moving forward.

Boston’s starting unit of six defensemen will also be a defining factor of their season. We know what injuries can do to a blue line and the Bruins do not have much depth outside their best six. If luck is on their side, this shouldn’t derail their shot at a positive season.

Brad Marchand continues to do Brad Marchand things. Two goals in the opener is a great start and you have to think he’s eager to follow that one up with some more point production.

Philadelphia Flyers News & Notes

This matchup will prove to be an excellent measuring stick for the Flyers. Putting six past an expansion team who are still building their identity in the league is all fine and well. However, a positive result against the Bruins can provide a massive confidence boost for this roster.

The Flyers are quite thin on the blue line. They allowed Vancouver to get 35 shots on goal in their season opener. This same recipe against the Bruins can prove to be detrimental given Boston’s ability to shut the door on their end of the ice. Luckily Carter Hart is capable of some truly top-class performances in the case that Philadelphia's defense does underperform.

Although this won’t be the case on Wednesday as Martin Jones is set to get his first start for the Flyers. Jones is coming off the worst season of his career. If this trend continues the Bruins will be a lot to handle for the netminder.

How the Bruins will Win

Boston will be a well-rested team looking to kick off a road trip with two points. Historically they’ve dealt with the Flyers well and that should continue to be true. They’ll enjoy the fact that they are facing Philadelphia backup Martin Jones. Look for Jeremy Swayman to have another solid performance against a team that scored 6 goals last time out.

How the Flyers will Win

The Flyers will still be without Rasmus Ristolainen. His return would have been a welcome boost for the Flyers in this matchup. To make matters worse, Martin Jones gets the start in this one. The Flyers will look to produce yet another explosive offensive performance. If they can engage Boston in a high-scoring contest they may look to steal this one.
