  • The Boston Bruins head to Tampa Bay down 3-1 in their series vs the Lightning in what is now an elimination game for B’s. The Bruins were stunned on their home-ice in consecutive games by their divisional rival and face the unenviable task of having to win three straight games against the best team in the Eastern Conference. Boston opened as a +160 underdog in Tampa, which would make it the biggest underdog its been all season.

    The Lightning came out in full-force again in Game 4, scoring the Sportsbook two goals and putting the Bruins on their heels. Steven Stamkos and Nikita Kucherov got on the board with a goal each but despite the offensive outburst, the Bolts defense was leaky, allowing Boston to answer back each time and giving up the lead when Patrice Bergeron scored short-handed. Goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy was steady but he has not been at an all-world level in the playoffs as he has a 2.75 goals-against-average in this series and a .894 save percentage. However, Tampa backers will be pleased to know that the Lightning are 4-1 SU and against the puckline in five home games in the postseason and have outscored their competition 19-12 in those games.

    The Bruins can’t just lick away their problems. Jokes aside, the Bruins may be in trouble in this series as they’ve been outscored 12-6 in the last three games after exploding for six goals in Game 1. Brad Marchand has eight points in this series but only one goal and his antics have not translated to wins like it did vs the Maple Leafs. The other factor that may sink the Bruins has been the play of goaltender Tuukka Rask. The Finnish netminder has allowed four goals in three straight games as the Bruins stout defense has left him vulnerable to Tampa’s potent attack. When you take into account that the Bruins are 2-7 SU in their last nine games on the road, it would take a monumental effort for Boston to knock off the Lightning tonight.

    The total opened at 6 and bettors may want to consider the OVER. The OVER has hit in four of Tampa’s last six games at home and they have average four goals per game in their barn.  Boston will be in desperation mode so expect a shootout in the Sunshine State.
