David Pastrnak's Bruins are slight favorites in the bruins vs Maple leafs odds

Bruins vs Maple Leafs Betting Preview

The Boston Bruins (38-7-5) will try to end a season-high three-game losing streak on Wednesday when they visit the Toronto Maple Leafs (31-12-8) as small road favorites in this key Atlantic Division matchup. The Bruins have suffered eight of their 12 losses overall away from home, including six in regulation and two in overtime or a shootout. The Maple Leafs sit 11 points back of Boston in the Atlantic and are looking forward to the NHL all-star break after this one in order to get healthier down the stretch.

Latest Betting Notes: Bruins

It took more than half the season for Boston to drop consecutive games, and the team’s current skid has taken place in the last three games of a five-game road trip that started with a 4-2 win over the Montreal Canadiens as a massive -400 betting favorite on January 24.

Since then, the Bruins have been outscored 11-6 in losing to the Tampa Bay Lightning, Florida Panthers and Carolina Hurricanes – all potential playoff foes down the road. Of that group, Tampa Bay and Carolina are viewed as other top contenders in the Eastern Conference, and Toronto fits that mold too, so this will be another good test.

Latest Betting Notes: Maple Leafs

Toronto is dealing with a couple of noteworthy injuries to center Auston Matthews (knee) and goaltender Matt Murray (ankle).

Matthews (53 points on 25 goals and 28 assists) was recently placed on injured reserve and is expected to miss at least the next three weeks. The injury to Murray (11-5-2, 2.73 goals-against average, .911 save percentage) is less severe, as he is hoping to return after the break.

In addition, fellow goalie Ilya Samsonov (17-5-2, 2.31, .917) has done a great job as the main starter through the season so far as Murray has dealt with multiple injuries. That outstanding depth has also helped the Maple Leafs overcome the loss of Matthews and could be a big factor come the postseason.

The Keys to Victory: Bruins

All-star goalie Linus Ullmark (25-4-1, 1.90, .936) has lost back-to-back starts for the first time this season as well, looking mortal for Boston in allowing three goals each time. In fact, he has given up exactly three goals in three of his past five outings, which may be a sign that he is starting to wear down and more resembling the player he was previously as a member of the Buffalo Sabres between 2015 and 2021. That said, the former sixth-round draft pick of Buffalo still has the best team in the league around to support him, and their confidence in him could not be greater. Look for him to bounce back in this spot.

The Keys to Victory: Maple Leafs

Samsonov has won three of his last four starts, allowing two goals or less in all of the wins. Toronto improved to 26-0 when the team has held the opposition to two goals or less with a 5-1 victory against the Washington Capitals on Sunday as a -140 home favorite, and oddsmakers pegged this team as chalk with the opening number at -123 before the line shifted in favor of the visiting Bruins. This might be the first time the Maple Leafs close as home underdogs since last season, and that should motivate them here.
