Can the Struggling Jets Get Back on Track at Bell MTS Place?

Kevin Hayes #12 of the Winnipeg Jets keeps an eye on the play during second period action against the San Jose Sharks at the Bell MTS Place on March 12, 2019 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

The Boston Bruins and Winnipeg Jets have been flying high for the majority of the 2018-19 season, but both teams will be looking to avoid three-game losing streaks when they collide in Manitoba tonight. Sportsbooks opened the Jets as -120 home favorites with a total of 6.

Bruins vs Jets Game Center

Standout Stats

  • The Jets have hit a wall in the home stretch of the season, as Winnipeg is 6-9-2 SU over its last 17 games. The Jets are notoriously solid on home ice yet have gone 2-3-2 SU at Bell MTS Place in their previous seven home contests.
  • In the only meeting between the teams this season, Boston topped Winnipeg 4-3 in a shootout on January 29. The Jets rank third in the NHL at 3.80 goals per game at home, while the Bruins own the fourth-worst goals per game rate on the road at 2.45.
  • Winnipeg goaltender Connor Hellebuyck hasn’t had his usual stellar form of late, going 2-5-0 SU in his last seven starts with an .894 save percentage in those outings. Hellebuyck allowed five goals in a 5-4 setback to the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday.
  • At the other end of the ice, Jaroslav Halak is expected to start for the Bruins. Halak has won five of his past six starts, posting a .945 save percentage over his previous seven outings. On the season, the native of Slovakia is 18-10-4 with a 2.33 goals-against average and .924 save percentage.
  • The Bruins have been one of the top UNDER teams in the NHL of late, as Boston has cashed UNDER bets in seven of its past 10 games with an average combined score of 5.5 goals. In the Bruins’ past 12 trips to Manitoba, the UNDER is 9-3.
  • Betting the Bruins in an underdog spot has been a profitable endeavor. In Boston’s past eight when tabbed as an underdog, it’s 6-2 SU and 7-1 on the puckline. Bovada opened Boston at +110 on the moneyline and its +1.5 puckline price at -270.

My best bet for Bruins-Jets

UNDER 6 goals

Both of these teams rank near the top of the league when it comes to the majority of offensive categories, but they’ve hit a bit of a wall of late – especially the Jets. With Halak set to start for the B’s, I think Winnipeg is going to struggle to score against the red-hot goaltender. If I was going to pick a team to win straight up, I would lean toward Boston on the moneyline, but I’m taking the UNDER as my best bet.
