Canucks, Caps on NHL lines

The Canucks will get a huge test in their second game of a five-game road trip when they face the underachieving Capitals as road underdogs on NHL betting lines at the Verizon Center on Friday night.

Vancouver (+110 at Bovada) is 8-1-1 in its past 10 games - sitting tied with Detroit for the most goals per game at 3.5 and owning the league’s best power play. The Canucks allow the third-fewest amount of goals per game, and that also makes them a threat to beat any team on any night with their two-way play.

Washington (-130 at Bovada) dropped three of its last four in a recent home-and-home series with Florida and Tampa Bay. However, they do hold a strong 15-4-5 record at home. Vancouver has been dominant nearly everywhere and could be a good upset wager in NHL betting action.

If Washington is to pay off for NHL bettors they will need to shut down the Vancouver power play, which has tallied 12 more goals this season than the Capitals' lowly power play.

The OVER/UNDER total at most sportsbooks is sitting at a surprising 6 for this game – consider they have sent UNDER bettors to the payout window in three of their previous four matchups.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have a decent record without Sidney Crosby in the lineup. That doesn’t mean they won’t miss him when they meet the streaking and likely home favorite Boston Bruins for the second time this week in a marquee NHL betting matchup on Saturday.

Boston has won three straight, but only sports a modest 11-7-3 record at home. Pittsburgh, meanwhile, has dropped just five games all season on the road. The Bruins rallied to defeat the Penguins on Monday for their second straight win head-to-head.

The Penguins average more goals per game than Boston, but without Crosby it certainly means others will have to step up to pull off the upset. The road underdog Penguins have been outplayed on the power play, and have not killed penalties well against the Bruins.

Pittsburgh has posted a 7-3 record as an underdog this season, and that could give confidence to bettors looking for the best potential upset of the night. These teams went OVER the posted total in the past two meetings, but they do reward UNDER bettors nearly twice as often as OVER bettors.
