New York’s Stars Shining On Broadway

New York’s top offensive players broke through and made the difference in Game 3. Mika Zibanejad opened the scoring with the series’ first power-play goal in the first period and then assisted on Chris Kreider’s eventual game-Sportsbook in the second stanza.

This has been the lowest-scoring series in Round 2, which certainly plays into the hands of the Rangers with the superior goaltender heading into a pivotal fourth game.

Igor Shesterkin kicked out 43 of 44 shots to backstop the Rangers to the 3-1 victory on Sunday. The Vezina Trophy favorite struggled through much of New York’s first-round series against Pittsburgh but has now stopped 87 of 91 shots through three games vs Carolina.

Power-Play Improvement A Must For Carolina

Carolina, 0-for-7 with the man advantage in the series and operating at an efficiency rate of just 11.6 percent in the playoffs, is finding it difficult to solve one of the best goaltenders in the league. They peppered Shesterkin in Game 3 but managed only a second-period marker from Nino Niederreiter in the loss at Madison Square Garden.

The Hurricanes went 25-12-4 away from home in the regular season, tying for the most road victories in the NHL, but they’re now winless in four tries in the playoffs. All six of their victories have come on their home ice.

While Frederik Andersen remains sidelined by injury, backup Antti Raanta has been solid between the pipes and has not taken a back seat to his more acclaimed counterpart. He had stopped 78 of 81 shots New York has sent his way in three games.

Hurricanes vs Rangers Pick & Insights

Hurricanes: Keys To Victory

Now isn’t the time for Carolina to panic. The Hurricanes dominated in the faceoff circle once again in Game 3 and outshot the Rangers by 11. But they need to improve on the power play to pay dividends as a Hurricanes vs Rangers pick.

Rangers: Keys To Victory

Zibanejad and Kreider are doing their part to ensure the team makes the most of its limited chances against a top-rate defensive team. New York finished with more hits than Carolina in Game 3 – setting the tone physically and getting another sparkling performance from Shesterkin are keys to the Rangers evening up the series.
