The St. Louis Blues host the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday night.

The St. Louis Blues (54-24-12) will look to take a surprising 2-1 series lead against the Colorado Avalanche (61-20-7) on Saturday in Game 3 as solid home underdogs at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark. The Avalanche vs Blues prediction has the hosts as the higher-ranked team, and they proved why with a 4-1 win in Game 2 as +210 road underdogs to tie the series at 1-1 after falling just short in a 3-2 overtime loss in Game 1.

Avalanche vs Blues Odds & Analysis

Opening Odds

St. Louis picked up where it left off in the series opener, stealing Game 2 on the road by putting together another strong start defensively and then scoring a pair of goals in the second and third periods to earn the upset victory. Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington held the opposition scoreless in the first period for the second game in a row and then continued his impressive play in the second period before allowing a lone goal in the third.

Binnington has been the story of this series so far, turning away 81-of-85 shots for a .953 Save Percentage. This would explain why bettors have been putting their money on the home dogs early on in Game 3, and that trend could continue as puck drop approaches.

Perron Shining as One of Top Goal Scorers in Playoffs

St. Louis winger David Perron leads the team with seven goals and 11 total points this postseason following a two-goal performance in Game 2. Perron was held to just one shot in Game 1, and the Blues are a much more dangerous team when he is on the score sheet. In fact, they are a perfect 4-0 when he has tallied a point in the playoffs and 0-3 when he has not.

Perron also ranks second on the team with three power-play goals, the latest coming in Game 2 on a 5-on-3. Only Ryan O’Reilly has more PP goals with four, and he ended up winning the Conn Smythe Trophy three years ago when St. Louis hoisted the Stanley Cup for the first time. Perron is skating on a similar path now.

MacKinnon, Makar Must Prove Worth in Biggest Game

The Avalanche have gotten just two points combined from the two best players in the NHL heading into the playoffs – center Nathan MacKinnon and defenseman Cale Makar. MacKinnon has both of them on a pair of assists, and the duo had totaled 16 points (eight goals and eight assists) between them in a four-game sweep during the first round.

MacKinnon admitted Colorado was “really bad” after Game 2 and noted they “need to forget about it and move on.” That of course is much easier said than done, especially for a team favored to win the Cup the past couple seasons and that blew a 2-0 series lead in the second round a year ago. The Avalanche vs Blues prediction needs MacKinnon and Makar to play like Conn Smythe contenders in order to back up their status as favorites.

Avalanche vs Blues Pick & Insights

Avalanche: Keys to Victory

Colorado had beaten St. Louis eight straight times in the playoffs before losing Game 2 of this series, including a first-round sweep last postseason. The Avalanche cannot let one hiccup change their course toward the Cup, and head coach Jared Bednar is responsible for righting the ship.

MacKinnon and captain Gabriel Landeskog can help drive that point home to their teammates too, as they remain an extremely talented bunch.

Blues: Keys to Victory

St. Louis played much better defensively in Game 2, holding Colorado to 31 shots after giving up 54 in Game 1. The Blues also outshot the Avalanche with 32 of their own, and all they need to do is keep doing the same thing in Game 3.

If St. Louis can outshoot Colorado again, then a series lead is definitely possible. And if you are taking the home dogs here with your Avalanche vs Blues pick, then you think that is a likely possibility.
