Stars Hope to Snap Slump Versus Avs

The Dallas Stars hope to put a dismal January behind them with a matchup vs a team that has really had their number in recent meetings when they visit the Colorado Avalanche Thursday night.

Shark Bites
  • The Stars are 1-8 SU in their last nine games on the road.
  • The Avalanche are 6-2 in their last eight games at home.
  • The total has gone UNDER in eight of the Avs' last 10 games.

At online shop Sportsbook, the Stars are priced as -130 favorites while the Avalanche are currently EVEN odds in moneyline markets. The total is presently 5.5 with OVER -120 and UNDER -110.

The Stars’ brilliant start to the season feels like an eternity ago as they slumped to a 3-8 SU record in January. They beat the Winnipeg Jets 5-3 in the first contest out of the All-Star break Tuesday night, but are winless in their last eight head-to-head meetings with the Avs and are winless in their last seven trips to Colorado. Two of those defeats to the Avs have come this season in a 6-3 loss at the Pepsi Center on October 10 and a 3-1 loss to the Avalanche on home ice on January 23.

Dallas still has as sizable 12-point lead over the Avs in the Central Division but the home team will look to cut into that and extend their dominant streak to nine games Thursday night. The Avalanche entered the break Sportsbooks of five of their previous six games, but began the unofficial second half of the season with a 2-1 setback against the Chicago Blackhawks.

While goaltender Semyon Varlamov is back with the team, Mike Chambers of the Denver Post has reported that it will be Calvin Pickard who will man the crease for the Avs. Pickard was a hard-luck loser in Tuesday’s game, stopping 40 of 42 shots in the 2-1 defeat.
