  • The Chicago Blackhawks (6-11-4) will try to avoid losing their eighth straight game on Wednesday when they host the Edmonton Oilers (12-10) as big home underdogs at sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark. The Blackhawks have the second-lowest point total in the Western Conference (16), with six of the seven losses during their current skid decided by two goals or more, rewarding those who have faded Chicago.

    Oilers vs Blackhawks Sportsbook Odds

The moneyline on this conference matchup has already topped -200 in favor of the visitors, and it would be a bit surprising if the line reversed course toward the home underdogs. Edmonton has won two games in a row, the latest being a come-from-behind 4-3 overtime victory in a pick’em matchup against the Florida Panthers on Monday after trailing 3-2 late in the third period.

Evan Bouchard tied the game for Edmonton with five seconds remaining in regulation time before Leon Draisaitl put home the game-Sportsbook 22 seconds into OT. The Oilers had rallied back from a 3-0 deficit to defeat the New York Rangers 4-3 two days earlier to wrap up a three-game road trip at 1-2.

Surprisingly, Chicago has won six of the past nine meetings with Edmonton, with the last five of those wins coming as underdogs and four at home. The OVER is also on an 8-2 series run.

Edmonton Owning Late Part of Games During Recent Winning Streak

On a positive note, the Oilers are seemingly never out of a game and have successfully responded to third-period deficits each time as they have won their last two games. They outscored the Rangers and Panthers 6-2 in the third, first seeing Draisaitl score the game-Sportsbook at Madison Square Garden with 2:02 left in regulation on a power-play goal before he beat Florida early in OT.

The negative part of that equation, though, is that Edmonton also continues to put itself in vulnerable situations where the team needs to rebound late in order to avoid a loss. The Oilers are 2-0 in OT this year after their latest victory.

Chicago’s Goaltending Duo Struggles as Season-High Skid Continues

It has not been pretty between the pipes for the Blackhawks lately, with goaltenders Petr Mrazek (1-5-1, 4.27 goals-against average) and Arvid Soderblom (2-4-2, 3.00) both struggling to keep the puck out of the net.

    Sportsbook

Soderblom’s save percentage (.910) has been better than Mrazek’s (.878) overall this season, earning the 23-year-old rookie as many starts as the 30-year-old veteran with Alex Stalock still out due to a concussion. Until Stalock is taken off injured reserve, the two goalies will likely continue to alternate starts and hope one of them is good enough to end the losing streak soon.

    Oilers: Keys To Victory

Edmonton is 4-0 in its last four games when scoring four goals or more, which is what you would expect from most teams generating that kind of offense. Prior to that, though, the Oilers scored five goals or more in five of their previous eight wins and needed at least four to win them. That looks to be the magic number (four) here at Chicago.

    Blackhawks: Keys To Victory

The last time Chicago allowed less than three goals in a game, the team ended up winning a 3-2 decision vs the Anaheim Ducks on November 12. That was a long time ago, and the Blackhawks have given up three goals or more in every game since then. In fact, they have surrendered five goals or more in five of the seven games during their skid. If they can hold their opponent to three or less in this spot, they should have a shot to win.
