Opening Odds Analysis

The odds are split for this one with both teams opening at -120 on the moneyline. The total is set at 6 goals with the OVER going 7-1 in Dallas’ last eight games and 7-3 in Edmonton’s last 10. The Stars are 9-4 in their last 13 home games while the Oilers are 12-5 in their last 17 road contests.

Edmonton News & Notes

The Oilers posted a 5-2 win over the Chicago Blackhawks in their last outing on Saturday as both Leon Draisaitl (1-1-2) and Connor McDavid (1-1-2) had two-point nights. Rookie Stuart Skinner made 29 saves on 31 shots to earn his third career win and second of the season.

The dynamic duo of Draisaitl and McDavid continues to light up the NHL, sitting 1-2 in league scoring. Draisaitl leads the NHL in points (35) and goals (18) while McDavid is second in points (32) and first in assists (20). Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (1-18-19) has also had a hot start to the season and sits tied for second in assists.

Darnell Nurse (finger) is expected to be out for two to three weeks while goaltender Mike Smith (lower body) suffered a setback and remains week to week.

Dallas News & Notes

The Stars earned a 4-1 win over the St. Louis Blues on Saturday to get back into the win column after suffering a 7-2 loss to the Minnesota Wild on Thursday. Jamie Benn (1-1-2), Roope Hintz (2-0-2), Esa Lindell (0-2-2) and Michael Raffl (0-2-2) all posted two points in the victory while Jake Oettinger made 35 saves.

Other than defenseman Miro Heiskanen, who leads the team in scoring with 13 points, Dallas hasn’t had many standout performers this season. Jason Robertson, who posted 45 points in 51 games in 2020-21, has nine points through 10 games this year after missing the first six games due to injury.

Goaltender Braden Holtby (lower body) is questionable for Tuesday.

How Edmonton Will Win

Unsurprisingly, the Oilers own the NHL’s second-best offense this season at 3.88 goals per game, thanks largely to McDavid and Draisaitl. McDavid has recorded at least one point in every game this season while Edmonton has scored at least five goals in six of its last seven wins. If the offense keeps rolling as it has all season, the Oilers should be able to pick up two points.

How Dallas Will Win

Oettinger is expected to start again on Tuesday and the 22-year-old will need to have another big game to keep Edmonton’s stars at bay. The Stars goaltender is 2-0-0 through three appearances this season, boasting a 1.43 goals-against average and a .955 save percentage. The Dallas defense has been nothing to write home about this season, so Oettinger will likely decide the Stars’ fate.
