The Edmonton Oilers (46-27-6) and Pittsburgh Penguins (45-24-11) have booked their tickets to the playoffs but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to play for when they meet Tuesday at PPG Paints Arena. The Penguins need the two points to hold off the Capitals, and similarly the Oilers are trying to fend off the Kings and solidify their playoff seed. The Oilers vs Penguins prediction has Connor McDavid and Sidney Crosby going head-to-head for two valuable points in late April.

Oilers Continue To Ride Goaltending Tandem
Edmonton had a four-game win streak snapped Sunday in Columbus when the Blue Jackets scored four times in the third period to secure a 5-2 triumph, which allowed the Los Angeles Kings to pull within two points of the Oilers for second place in the Pacific Division.
Mikko Koskinen got the start against the Jackets and gave up four goals on 30 shots. The Oilers could turn to Mike Smith in this one with the goaltender coming off a victory against the Avalanche last week. The Oilers vs Penguins prediction wouldn’t drastically change based on who gets the start but it’ll be interesting to see who the Oilers stick with for the playoffs.
The Oilers downed the Penguins 5-2 in Edmonton in their first meeting of the season on December 1, when Zach Hyman scored twice and Connor McDavid had four points, but Pittsburgh has won seven of the last nine matchups dating back to 2016.
Penguins Clinging To Metro Playoff Spot
Pittsburgh’s 4-5-1 stretch in its last 10 games could not have come at a worse time, with Washington just one point behind in the race for third place in the Metropolitan Division and with a game in hand.
The Penguins have clinched a playoff berth but desperately need two points against the Oilers if they want to avoid dropping down to a wild-card spot and a first-round matchup against one of the Eastern Conference’s top two teams.
Tristan Jarry’s foot injury was a huge blow to Pittsburgh last week and the Oilers vs Penguins prediction must factor in his absence. Luckily for Pittsburgh, Casey DeSmith has performed well in Jarry’s absence, shutting out the Bruins in a 52-save outing last week. Given that Louis Domingue started their last game, DeSmith seems likely to get the start against Edmonton.
Oilers vs Penguins Pick & Insights
Oilers: Keys To Victory
McDavid is in pole position to bring home a fifth Art Ross Trophy and he’ll have extra motivation with a superior playoff seed on the line during the remaining two games of the season. Evander Kane is on a five-game point streak and his play could influence the Oilers vs Penguins pick.
Penguins: Keys To Victory
Pittsburgh’s second-best penalty kill in the league will try to nullify Edmonton’s strong power play. Given the way DeSmith is playing, the Penguins can feel confident in producing a low-scoring affair. The Oilers vs Penguins prediction cannot ignore deadline acquisition Rickard Rakell’s recent contributions alongside Crosby and Jake Guentzel and the trio will need another positive night.
