First Place Panthers Look To Keep Climbing

The Panthers’ offense was held in check on Friday against the Vancouver Canucks but they still managed a 2-1 shootout win on the road. Sam Reinhart scored the team’s only goal in regulation, Spencer Knight made 27 saves, and Aleksander Barkov buried the shootout Sportsbook to earn Florida the hard-fought victory.

Coming into Sunday, Florida (61 points) sits first in the NHL, ahead of the Tampa Bay Lightning (28-10-5, 61 points) on points percentage. The Panthers also rank second in the league in goals per game at 4.02, trailing only the Colorado Avalanche (4.15), while sitting just outside the top-10 in team defense at 2.78 goals against per game (13th).

Patric Hornqvist (upper body) and Sam Bennett (lower body) are questionable for Sunday’s game.

Kraken Shut Out As Two-Game Win Streak Is Snapped

Seattle was handily defeated by St. Louis in its last outing, falling 5-0 on home ice Friday. Five different players scored for the Blues, Brandon Saad picked up two assists to lead the team, and Ville Husso (27 saves) earned the shutout while Joey Daccord (26 saves) took the loss in net for the Kraken.

The loss snapped Seattle’s two-game winning streak, which came on the heels of a nine-game skid. While the NHL’s newest team has struggled to score, averaging just 2.6 goals per game (26th), they’ve been hindered even more by their poor goaltending, which ranks dead last in the league in terms of save percentage (.875).

Jamie Oleksiak (illness) is questionable while Chris Driedger (COVID-19 protocols) is out.

Panthers vs Kraken Pick & Insights

Panthers: Keys to Victory

The Panthers only know one style of hockey and that’s fast-paced and high-scoring. With 5.4 goals per game over their last 11 contests, including two nine-goal showings, expect Florida to score early and often against a weak Seattle squad. The Panthers simply have too much high-end talent and offensive depth for the Kraken to handle.

Kraken: Keys to Victory

It’s tough to see a way to victory for Seattle but we should note that they beat Florida in their first meeting on November 27. The Kraken won the game 4-1 despite being outshot 34-26 as Jordan Eberle scored twice and Driedger made 33 saves to earn first star honors. With Driedger out, the Kraken will need a huge performance from likely starter Philipp Grubauer if they’re going to pull out a win.
