Game 5: hurricanes vs Rangers preview & pick
The Game: Carolina Hurricanes vs New York Rangers, 7 pM ET
Team | Puckline | Total | Moneyline |
---|---|---|---|
Carolina Hurricanes | -1.5 (+225) | O5.5 (-105) | -110 |
New York Rangers | +1.5 (-278) | U5.5 (-115) | -110 |
Michel Take: The safest bet in this series is to take the Rangers on the puckline. The dog has covered in every game so far. But at -278 there isn't much value in betting that line and God forbid the Hurricanes dominate the Rangers.
I'm taking the Hurricanes on the pick 'em money line. I'll still be riding the puckline because guaranteed wins with marginal gains is my bag but in terms of value, the Canes at -110 on the ML is a good play to me. The one element holding back the Hurricanes was the special teams and with a combined 150% efficiency on the special teams in Game 4, they've seemingly fixed their biggest issue.
I think that one power-play goal by Carolina in Game 4 changes a lot in this series. The Hurricanes were 0-for-15 prior to that on the PP. The Rangers could take a few more liberties without running the risk of going down a goal. That's not the case anymore. We have to remember Carolina had the second-best power play in the regular season. A power play that scores puts the Rangers on their toes*.
You can tell by the way they use their walk on the special teams in Game 4 that the Canes are stayin' alive (at least another day).
*On the power play front; Seth Jarvis led all Hurricanes in PP goals this year. Tossing a unit on Jarvis to score at any time with +200 odds is a good idea tonight.
Pick: Hurricanes ML (-110)

Josie's Take: A rare slow start interrupted the Rangers closing out this series with a sweep. Yet, New York still managed to make it a tied game early into the third period before letting it slip away. Igor Shesterkin still made a solid 27 saves and there was a noble 25-shot effort from the offense in front of him. I like the Rangers to shake it off and finish this at Madison Square Garden.
Pick: Rangers ML -112
Game 4: Stars vs Avalanche preview & picks
The Game: Dallas Stars vs Colorado Avalanche, 9:30 PM ET
Team | Puckline | Total | Moneyline |
---|---|---|---|
Dallas Stars | +1.5 (-205) | O6.5 (-110) | +114 |
Colorado Avalanche | -1.5 (+180) | U6.5 (-115) | -135 |
Michel's Take: Did Dallas-Colorado forget that the West is supposed to hit the OVER every game? What was that 4-1 scoreline in Game 3?! Amateurs!
I still like the OVER even if they didn't hit it in the last game. In their last 10 meetings, the OVER is 7-3 with a whopping average of 7.7 goals scored. When these two meet in Colorado, the average score is 7.2 goals!
With Game 3 going below the total, the line for today's game is a juicy -110. All the more profit for us!
Pick: OVER 6.5 (-110)
Josie's Take: The Stars defense, mixed with a side of Jake Oettinger, shut down Colorado’s offense to take a crucial 2-1 lead in the series. That’s the trick to handling this depth. Of their last five meetings, as home favorites hosting teams on a winning streak, Colorado has lost four of its last five. I’ll ride with Dallas to snag a reigning 3-1 lead.
Pick: Stars ML +114
