Jets vs Avalanche Preview - January 22

Jets vs Avalache Odds & Picks: Total Goes OVER 5.5 Goals Tonight

After an embarrassing 5-2 loss to Utah two nights ago, the winless in their last two Winnipeg Jets head to Ball Arena to face the Colorado Avalanche tonight. After being publicly called out by their coach I expect the Jets to put on an offensive show tonight in Colorado, and with Mackenzie Blackwood struggling of late I expect the total to go OVER tonight for the eighth time in 11 games.

See the odds for Jets vs Avalanche and my total, moneyline, and player prop picks for tonight's duel between two of the best sides in the Western Conference.

Jets vs Avalanche Picks

OVER 5.5 Goals (-110) at Sportsbook

"That was embarrassing. From top to bottom. We did a horseshit job" That was Jets coach Scott Arniel's comments following his team's recent 5-2 loss to Utah. Typically following a big loss the Jets put on an offensive show scoring an average of 4.5 goals and going OVER the total four times in seven games. But that's without getting publicly blasted by their coach in the media, with those comments from Arniel, the Jets should be hyper-motivated to perform tonight.

Mark Scheifele steps up offensively following a big loss with six goals and ten points in seven games or 1.4 points per game. OVER 0.5 points for Scheifele today is -200 at Sportsbook.

Mackenzie Blackwood might have glowing stats between the pipes for Colorado at 1.97 goals against average and 0.928 save percentage, but cracks are starting to show in his game. In Blackwood's last two starts, he's allowed seven goals for a 3.67 goals against average and 0.870 save percentage. A motivated Jets offense should find the holes in Blackwood's game tonight.

Combining a motivated Jets team that scores a lot after getting embarrassed, a shaky Avs goalie, and a Colorado offense with the seventh-best home scoring rate averaging 3.4 goals per game, we're guaranteed to see OVER 5.5 goals tonight.

Jets ML (+100) Sportsbook

Connor Hellebuyck should get the start in the net, and that alone should have you thinking about betting on the Jets straight up. Hellebuyck has been great against the Avs winning his last five starts against them, his last loss to Colorado was on February 24, 2023.

Jets vs Avalanche Player Props

Josh Morrissey OVER 0.5 Points (-110) at Sportsbook

We're getting good odds on OVER 0.5 points for Josh Morrissey because of a recent cold streak. As Outlier points out, the Jets defenseman has failed to exceed 0.5 points in five of his last six road games. But I'm betting that changes tonight.

Morrissey PTS - Jan 22

Like Mark Scheifele, Josh Morrissey steps up after a big loss scoring eight points in seven games this season, or 1.14 per game. The Jets D-man has been productive against Colorado over the past few seasons netting three goals and 11 points in his last nine games (1.2 per game) vs the Avs. And if the Jets score as often as I suggested they will, it only makes sense for the Jets' most utilized player, averaging just over 24 minutes a night to get a point or two tonight.

Jets vs Avalanche Betting Trends

  • The total has gone OVER in five of Winnipeg's last six road games.
  • Colorado is 7-3 SU in its last 10 home games.
  • Per Outlier, Devon Toews has exceeded 1.5 shots on goal in eight straight games, averaging 3.0 shots.
