Sportsbook Odds Analysis

The Maple Leafs opened as -145 favorites and have received enough betting action to bump them up to Toronto -155. Montreal is now going off at +135 to pull off the upset and the total is set at 6 goals, down from its Sportsbook line of 6.5 goals. The OVER is 7-3 in Toronto’s last 10 games against Montreal.

Montreal News & Notes

Eric Staal made a splash in his Canadiens debut on Monday night when he buried the game-Sportsbook in overtime to give Montreal a 3-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers. The Canadiens improved to 4-1 over their last five games after going just 5-11 on the moneyline over their previous 16. Seven of those 11 losses came in a shootout or overtime.

Carey Price made 21 saves on 23 Edmonton shots to help lead the Canadiens to the win, but he also suffered a lower-body injury in the game that will keep him out of Wednesday night’s matchup. Jake Allen will take over starting goaltender duties until Price is set to return. Allen is 5-3-4 with a 2.23 goals-against average and a .922 save percentage this season.

Toronto News & Notes

Auston Matthews scored two goals in Toronto’s 5-3 win over the Calgary Flames on Monday night. Matthews now has six goals in his last six games and a league-leading 27 tallies in 36 games this season. The 2016 first overall pick has been an elite player ever since joining the league, but as he enjoys a career year in 2021 at just 23 years old, he is reminding hockey fans that he incredibly still has room to grow.

The Maple Leafs could have a goaltending controversy on their hands when Frederik Andersen returns from injury. Andersen was 2-5 with a 3.42 goals-against average and a .876 save percentage in March when he tried playing through a lower-body injury. Jack Campbell, meanwhile, has gone a perfect 9-0-0 this season with a 1.53 GAA and a .944 save percentage. Will a healthy Andersen be able to get his starting role back from the red-hot Campbell?

Betting Pick: Toronto -155

The Maple Leafs went through a surprising 1-6 slump back in early March, but they are 7-0-1 since then and 25-4-3 in their other 32 games this season. Toronto has been rock-solid and should be able to keep things rolling here, especially with Carey Price sidelined.
