Ducks Host Preds as Slight Faves in Game 1 of West Finals

Practically walking through the first two rounds of Lord Stanley’s playoffs, the Nashville Predators are just four wins away from making it to their first-ever Stanley Cup final. They’ll hit the road for the first two games of the West final to take on a Ducks team that’s coming off a momentous Game 7 win in Anaheim.

SHARK BITES
  • The Ducks are 10-2 SU in their last 12 games at home.
  • Pekka Rinne has not allowed a low-danger goal the entire postseason (129 saves).
  • The total has gone UNDER in the Predators' last 4 games with a closing total of 5.0 or less.

Both the coaches in this series, Randy Carlyle and Peter Laviolette, already have a Stanley Cup win each but if we’re talking pedigree, it’s the Ducks’ players who have the serious edge. This is the Preds’ first franchise appearance in the Western Conference final and they don’t have a single player on their roster with a Cup win.

The Quackers, however, have two superstars named Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry who were both on the Ducks’ 2007 Cup-winning squad. They lead a deep group of forwards that will have to be really good this series as their depth up front may be the only advantage the Ducks have right now – positionally speaking.

Anaheim opened as a very slight favorite in Game 1 and I can’t see this line moving very much. Books will want to take the temperature tonight before they start assigning crazy value to either side. The margins in this best-of-seven are incredibly tight and if you look back to last postseason, you’ll see that these guys battled to a seventh and deciding game in the first round with the Ducks drawing the short end of the stick.

As far as the total is concerned, I don’t see a ton of goals being scored tonight. Pekka Rinne has been nearly unbeatable so far, going 8-2 with a .951 save percentage and if his blue-liners continue to be as good as they have been, it’s unlikely he regresses.
