NBA And NHL Playoff Preview And Picks For May 2

Winning is fun. So you could say I’m having a blast right now after going 4-0 with yesterday’s NBA and NHL games.

It was also an incredible night of sports viewing in general with the Cavs-Raps going to overtime and two of the best games in the NHL playoffs so far.

Hope we can keep the good times rolling heading into tonight. Keep in mind NBA underdogs have now covered three games in a row and four of the last five after faves started the NBA playoffs covering at 64 percent.

I mentioned on OddsShark Live yesterday that I thought we’d see oddsmakers adjust with so many faves coming in. We’ll talk about it as the games go on.

Here’s my record for the playoffs so far. I continue to blaze on the ice:

Now 18-12-1 in the NHL after a 2-0 Tuesday. I’m up $532 (based on $100/gm bets)
Now 14-15 ATS in the NBA after a 2-0 Tuesday.

NBA:

Jazz at Rockets -11, 205

Jazz haven’t covered against the Rockets all season (0-5 ATS) and the drubbing they took in Game 1 didn’t instill any confidence.

Ricky Rubio is also out for Game 2 again after missing Game 1 with a hamstring injury. I said on OddsShark Live today that he’s worth as much as four points to the spread for the Jazz right now and Utah is 1-4 against the spread without him this season.

While Rubio is a huge loss for the Jazz, I still think this line is a tad inflated. Underdogs have covered four of the last five games in the NBA playoffs and I think we’ll see public love for the Rockets. I also think the backdoor cover is a real possibility if the Rockets get up big again early.

Pick: Jazz +11

NHL:

Lightning at Bruins -135, 6

I am still a tad sour that Game 2 was a push on the total of six goals. Vasilevsky lets in a stink bomb late in the game and the Bolts score an empty netter to rip my UNDER money right out of my pocket.

What can ya do. I still like the UNDER for the same reasons. The Bolts are going to be much tougher defensively from forwards to the blueliners. They’re strategy of shutting down the Bruins top line of Pastrnak-Bergeron-Marchand using their grind line of Point-Ondrej-Palat worked much better in Game 2 also.

Pick: UNDER

Golden Knights at Sharks -130, 5.5

I mentioned on the show this might be the single series with any value left in it on the Sharks at +275.

There is a lotta series left and there is a lot to like for the Sharks. They are blasting the most shots of the NHL playoffs and getting quality scoring opportunities. The trouble is that Marc-Andre Fleury has been the best goalie statistically and in just about every way these playoffs.

Martin Jones meanwhile owns an .840 save percentage this round, which is what makes this bet so terrifying. But I like the way the Sharks are playing and Jones can turn it around. He has before in the playoffs.

Pick: Sharks -130
