Sportsbook Odds Analysis

The Flyers opened as -130 favorites in this matchup, but early bettors jumped on the Rangers to drive the Flyers down to +100 and New York up to -120. The total also jumped up to 6.5 goals after Sportsbook at 6. The OVER is 5-1 in the last six games between Philadelphia and New York.

New York News & Notes

Chris Kreider scored two goals and Artemi Panarin recorded three assists in New York’s 5-3 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Monday night. Panarin has been outstanding since his return to the lineup in March with three goals and seven assists over his last six games. The Rangers are 4-1-1 over that stretch since going 0-3-0 in their previous three games.

New York enters Thursday’s action two points behind the Flyers in the East Division and four points behind the Boston Bruins for the fourth spot in the division. Unfortunately for the Rangers, the Bruins have that four-point lead as well as three games in hand on New York. The Rangers still have a lot of work to do to close the gap on a playoff spot and to dig themselves out of the 4-7-3 hole they started the season in.

Philadelphia News & Notes

The Flyers picked up their third straight loss on Tuesday night as Carter Hart allowed four goals in a 4-3 loss to the New Jersey Devils. Philadelphia continues to give Hart starts despite his abysmal play in 2021; the 22-year-old owns an 8-8-3 record with a 3.85 goals-against average and a .875 save percentage. He’s been even worse in March with an alarming 4.61 goals-against average and a .830 save percentage across nine games.

Brian Elliott hasn’t been much better in his seven appearances in March with a 3.92 goals-against average and a .833 save percentage. Elliott’s strong play earlier in the season helped keep the Flyers afloat, but now that he is struggling as well, Philadelphia is just 3-7-1 over its last 11 games.

Betting Pick: OVER 6.5 goals

Philadelphia’s combination of quality offense and terrible goaltending has produced pretty consistent results on the OVER this season at 22-9. The last two games between these two teams each had nine goals scored; there’s no reason to expect a defensive showdown in this one.
