Lundqvist was the Key to Victory in Game 1 Upset

Every series is now underway and with Canadian teams getting swept in their respective icebreakers, the Habs will look to become the first team from the Great White North to get a win in these playoffs. The first matchup between the Canadiens and Rangers was, rather predictably, a goaltenders’ duel between Carey Price and Henrik Lundqvist and with the two netminders in line for the starts this evening, we could have another low-scoring affair on our hands.

SHARK BITES
  • Henrik Lundqvist and Carey Price combined to stop 60 of 61 shots in Game 1.
  • The visiting team is 3-0 SU in the last 3 games in this matchup and 6-0 on the puckline in the last 6.
  • The Rangers are 9-2 SU in their last 11 games against the Canadiens in the playoffs.

In the eight playoff games so far, the UNDER has cashed six times and there’s been a grand total of zero OVERs. That’s the best trend that’s developed in the early stages of Lord Stanley’s playoffs and if Carey and King Henrik keep chugging along, it’s likely going to continue.

Keep in mind, however, that Mr. Lundqvist has some of his worst career numbers against the Habs and his performance in Game 1 was an anomaly. In 35 career appearances against the Canadiens, Lundy has a sub-.900 save percentage and in his three appearances against them in the 2016-17 regular season, he posted an .871 save percentage along with a 4.04 goals-against average – yikes.

The Rangers have done most of their significant work on the road this season and if they’re able to get the W in Game 2, they’ll put a stranglehold on the series going back to New York. Expect the Canadiens to throw everything at Henrik tonight in an attempt to even the series as they’ll feel confident going into a building where the Rangers have lost eight of their last 10 contests if the series is all square.
