Lock in the Lightning in Game 7 vs Islanders

Brayden Point and the Lightning are favored over the Islanders in Game 7 of their semi-final matchup.

The New York Islanders went from allowing 10 straight goals to forcing a Game 7 in their Stanley Cup semifinal series with the Tampa Bay Lightning. What can bettors expect in the deciding game? Oddsmakers expect the Lightning (47-20-6 SU, 33-35-5 O/U) to return to the Stanley Cup Final despite squandering a two-goal lead in Game 6 to the Isles (43-23-8 SU, 30-38-6 O/U).

Opening Odds Analysis

Tampa Bay opened the Game 7 betting cycle as a -170 favorite and remains there at most sportsbooks, though the odd -165 is also available. The Islanders are set at +145. The total is locked in at 5, with the OVER at -130 and the UNDER at +110.

New York News & Notes

It looked like the Islanders were down and out, trailing 2-0 in Game 6 after dropping a humiliating 8-0 decision two nights earlier. A Jordan Eberle goal just past the midway point of the game trimmed the deficit in half, and the Isles upped the pressure considerably, evening the score in the third period and escaping with the win on Anthony Beauvillier’s extra-time winner.

Still, there’s one more game to win if the Islanders want to set up a Stanley Cup matchup with the Montreal Canadiens. And with the Isles having been outscored 12-2 in the last two games at Amalie Arena, there’s plenty of reason for pessimism. New York has lost 10 of its past 14 visits to Tampa, which has gone an outstanding 26-8-2 at home through the regular season and playoffs.

Tampa Bay News & Notes

The Lightning let a second straight trip to the final slip through their fingers at Nassau Coliseum, but their extended dominance at home has them a firm favorite in the eyes of the sportsbooks. They’re an incredible plus-17 through their first eight postseason games at Amalie Arena and have just one regulation home loss over the course of their impressive playoff run.

Speaking of hot streaks, we have to mention Brayden Point in this space again, since he extended his goal-scoring streak to nine games with a first-period tally in that Game 6 defeat. Point now has 14 goals so far in the playoffs (after scoring 23 in 56 games during the season) and has scored seven times through the Lightning’s first eight postseason home games.

Betting Pick: Tampa Bay (-170)

Betting will be closer to EVEN than it should be on this one, but let’s not get cute. The Lightning have followed each of their previous 13 losses with a victory and have been dominant at home throughout the playoffs.
