2024 NHL Playoffs Series Prices: Who's Favored In The First Round?

For the first time in NHL playoff history, the Colorado Avalanche face-off against the Winnipeg Jets. Despite not winning one of three regular season games against the Jets, the Avs enter the series as -135 favorites.

This matchup will prove whether offense or defense results in success. Colorado averages the league's second-best 3.69 GPG but Winnipeg's defense is hard to pass, allowing a league-low 2.43 GPG

Carolina has been responsible for knocking New York out of the playoffs twice since 2018-19. 

Entering as heavy favorites, oddsmakers think the Canes will shrug off the Islanders quickly, with a 4-1 series price being the +300 favorite. However, Carolina hasn't won a first-round series in less than six games in the last five seasons.

A playoff rivalry that we know very well is about to be reignited. Since the 2010's, the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins have went head-to-head in the opening round three times. As we all remember, each series went to seven games with Boston advancing in all. 

The Bruins have defeated the Leafs four times this regular season. But, perhaps Toronto's league-leading offense (3.71 GPG) can clinch a playoff series over the Bruins for the first time since 1959.

Somehow, someway, and despite a -37 goal differential, the Washington Capitals have made it to the postseason. Yeah, that is the worst goal differential recoding for a team entering the playoffs since the Canucks (-72) in 1991. What happened to Vancouver that season? They were kicked out by the Kings in six games in the first round.

With hefty opening odds, there's no doubt the majority is leaning on the President Trophy winners to eliminate the Caps pretty quickly.

After a three-year playoff drought, the Vancouver Canucks have slid back into the playoffs. The Nashville Predators came out of nowhere, winning 20 of their final 28 meetings.

Though the Canucks won the regular season series (3-0), these two haven't faced-off since December. Does Vancouver know how to handle Nashville now that its playing at its prime?

For the third-straight season, the Edmonton Oilers and LA Kings meet in the opening round. The odds favor Edmonton, which has eliminated LA in back-to-back playoffs. The Kings haven't defeated the Oilers in the playoffs since 1989.

The Kings have played stronger hockey under Jim Hiller, who was promoted to interim head coach in February, wrapping up with a promising 21-12-1. But, with McDavid becoming the fourth player to hit 100 assists, it's clear he's making his team an offensive threat.
