With the NHL preseason underway, sportsbooks have released their updated playoff odds. The defending Stanley Cup champion Blackhawks top the list with the strongest odds to make the playoffs at -1100. They’re followed closely by the Rangers who come in at -1000.
The team Bovada views as the biggest longshot to make the playoffs are the Coyotes who come in at +400. They’re followed by the Hurricanes at +300 and the Devils and Sabres are neck and neck at +275.
Maple Leafs fans won’t be happy to see their team rank among the top underdogs at +250, making them the biggest longshot of Canada’s seven franchises. It’ll also sadden them to see that their hated rival Canadiens top the list of Canadian contenders at -280.
To throw even more gas on the fire, former Leafs whipping boy Phil Kessel looks like a virtual lock to be playing in the postseason as his new team, the Penguins, come in at -800.
