New Look, Same Results For The Sens

With all the changes ahead of the season, there was a lot of hope and promise that this would be the year the Senators took a big step forward. But that hasn’t been the case. Wednesday’s loss was the 12th in their last 16 games. Only Anaheim, Chicago and Columbus have fewer points than Ottawa.

Tim Stutzle has been a bright spot for the Sens offensively. Despite being held off the scoresheet against the Rangers in their last game, the 20-year-old winger has recorded at least two points in six of his last 13 games.

Ottawa is just 3-6-1 on the road this season but has won each of its last two games away from home.

A Rough Start For Shesterkin, Rangers

Like the Sens, the New York Rangers likely aren’t happy with the first quarter of the season. The Reigning Vezina Trophy Sportsbook is shouldering some of that blame, saying after his most recent start, a 5-3 loss to New Jersey on Monday, that he needs to be better. Shesterkin is 10-4-3 on the season with a GAA of 2.58 but has allowed four goals in each of his last two starts. In both of those games, the Rangers blew multi-goal leads.

It’s been a tale of two seasons for Artemi Panarin, who began the season with 12 points in his first six games. Since then though, he has 13 points in his last 18 games and has scored just one goal in his last 14 contests.

The Rangers have struggled at home this season, having won just once in their last six games at MSG. Only Arizona, Vancouver and San Jose have fewer home wins than New York.

Senators Player Prop: Claude Giroux Anytime Goal Scorer (+320)

Giroux has had a lot of success playing the Rangers throughout his career with 58 points. He has nine goals this season and as one of the veteran forwards on the team, he will want to lead by example. That number is simply too high to avoid.

Rangers Player Prop: Adam Fox 3+ Shots On Goal (+116)

Fox has been one of the best offensive defensemen in the league over the last few years. As he goes, so do the Rangers. Fox has registered at least three shots on goal in two of his last three games, including Wednesday’s win vs. Ottawa.

Senators: Keys to Victory

Get off to a strong start. Ottawa has proven this season that they are not a good hockey team when playing from behind. They are 0-10-1 when trailing after two periods. If they can jump out to an early lead and force the Rangers to open up, then the road team could be the right play when making your Senators vs. Rangers pick.

Rangers: Keys to Victory

Igor Shesterkin. As mentioned, he is coming off back-to-back starts in which he has struggled, but the Sens could be the medicine he is looking for. The goaltender is 2-0 in two career starts against Ottawa, allowing one goal in each game. If he returns to his dominant self, then the Rangers should earn their second straight win.
