Sportsbook Odds Analysis

The game opened with EVEN odds and the number has since moved in Philadelphia’s favor in the -110 to -115 range. The total opened at 6.5 and has moved down to 6 with EVEN odds on the OVER/UNDER at most sportsbooks.

Philadelphia News & Notes

The Philadelphia Flyers have won three games in a row and sit fourth in the East Division with games in hand on all three teams ahead of them.

But despite their solid place in the standings, the Flyers’ underlying numbers are not so shiny. They are giving up far more chances and high-danger chances than they are generating, ranking 25th in overall scoring chances and 23rd in high-danger scoring chances. They do, at least, rank eighth in the league in goals at even strength.

Winger James van Riemsdyk leads the Flyers with 10 goals and 25 points in 18 games. No other player on the team has more than 17 points.

Goaltending has also been a bit of a weird spot for the Flyers as starting netminder Carter Hart has struggled, going 6-3-3 with a .899 save percentage, while backup Brian Elliott is 5-1-0 with a .931.

Pittsburgh News & Notes

The Pittsburgh Penguins sit just behind the Flyers, in fifth place in the East and just outside the playoffs. The Pens got off to a slow start as several of their top players struggled to put points on the board, but they have bounced back in a big way.

Seven players on the team now have 10 points or more after their slow starts, with Evgeni Malkin and Kris Letang making the biggest improvements. After just three points in his first eight games, Malkin has nine points in his last 12. Letang had three points in his first nine games, followed by 11 points in his last 10.

Goaltending has been the main issue for the Pens, as their goalies have not bounced back the way some of the skaters have. Tristan Jarry has emerged as the unquestioned starter, but he still sports just a 7-6-1 record with a .894 save percentage.

Betting Pick: OVER 6

These are two high-scoring teams with questionable goaltending. Especially if Carter Hart starts for Philly, we like the odds of picking the OVER more than the odds of trying to pick a Sportsbook.
