Penguins Visit Vegas Looking For Second Straight Win

The Pittsburgh Penguins (22-10-5) continue to surge up the Metropolitan Division standings after securing an overtime win against the Sharks in their last outing. They’ll tangle Monday night with the Vegas Golden Knights (23-14-2), who have dropped two games in a row. The Penguins vs Golden Knights prediction suggests this could be a tight contest between two teams with similar records.

Penguins Seek Strong Finish In Final Outing Of Six-Game Road Trip

The Penguins bounced back nicely on Saturday with a 2-1 overtime win against San Jose after being trounced 6-2 by the Kings in their previous outing. Pittsburgh is 3-2 in the first five games of its six-game road trek and and another win tonight would give the Penguins eight out of a possible 12 points on the trip, a great haul for a team looking to break into the top three in the Metropolitan.

Louis Domingue got the start against the Sharks and saved 40 of 41 shots in his debut for the Penguins. No. 1 goalie Tristan Jarry should get the starting assignment tonight. Jarry has had a fantastic season and will need to be sharp against a team that ranks third in the league in goals scored.

Both Brock McGinn and Danton Heinen should be back after clearing the league’s COVID-19 protocols but Bryan Rust and Jason Zucker will be game-time decisions.

Golden Knights Need To Reverse Fortunes On Major Eight-Game Homestand

The Golden Knights have had to deal with their fair share of injury issues over the last few weeks and their record has suffered as a result, with only two wins through the first six games of an eight-game homestand. Max Pacioretty and Jack Eichel remain on injured reserve, while Nicolas Hague and Laurent Brossoit are considered day to day.

In addition, Shea Theodore, Nolan Patrick and Nicolas Roy find themselves on the COVID-19 protocol list. Theodore’s absence is a big one for the team while Patrick and Roy are valuable depth players and will also be missed.

The Golden Knights are a mediocre defensive squad but can completely overwhelm teams when their offensive game is on. The Penguins vs Golden Knights matchup is shaping up to be a battle of disciplined defense vs all-out offense.

Penguins vs Golden Knights Pick & Insights

Penguins: Keys To Victory

Evgeni Malkin’s seamless return to the Pittsburgh lineup has been a wonderful sight for the Penguins. The veteran has notched three points in three games on the second line since returning from a knee injury and that added firepower will be needed against a shaky Vegas defense.

Golden Knights: Keys To Victory

The Golden Knights have been off since January 11, giving them plenty of time to rest and prepare for the Pens. But they’ll be facing one of the hottest teams in the league without some key personnel. Tristan Jarry allowed six goals in his last start and the Golden Knights could take advantage of a mentally fragile netminder to secure two points at home.
