The Colorado Avalanche won their first Stanley Cup since 2001 with a 4-2 series victory over the defending champion Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Avs were favored in every series they played during these playoffs, including the Stanley Cup Final.

Avalanche vs Lightning

The Stanley Cup will be in the building on Friday night.

The Colorado Avalanche are on the verge of their first Cup victory since 2001 after beating the Tampa Bay Lightning on the road in Game 4.

The Lightning had won 11 straight series entering this Stanley Cup Final but it’s hard to see them winning a 12th.

Sure, this is the Tampa Bay Lightning we are talking about and it’s hard to ever count them out of any series. After four games, however, it has become pretty clear that the Avs are the better team and that for the Bolts to win, they will likely need both a great goaltending performance from Andrei Vasilevskiy and a poor goaltending performance from Darcy Kuemper.

It certainly could happen. In fact, it happened in Game 3. But will it happen three more times in a row? We don’t see it. That’s why we are avoiding betting on the Lightning in NHL series odds despite the tempting +800 number.

That being said, betting on the Avalanche at -1600 is kind of pointless. But we do think the Avs will win the Stanley Cup in the next few days.
