Rangers, Caps on NHL lines

The New York Rangers fell 2-1 in overtime to the Washington Capitals in Game 1 of their NHL playoff series on Wednesday night.

Henrik Lundqvist and company will be looking to bounce back as +140 road underdogs at Sportsbook.ag for Game 2 in Washington on Friday night in NHL betting action.

It took a late goal by Alexander Ovechkin in regulation and another from Alexander Semin in OT to give the Capitals a 1-0 lead in their best-of-seven first-round Eastern Conference series against the Rangers.

The Rangers have one of the best goaltenders in the NHL with Lundqvist manning the pipes - and they did win three of four against the Capitals during the regular season. New York was good down the stretch coming into the playoffs, going 11-4-1 over their final 16 games.

It took a lot of work just to qualify for the playoffs for the Rangers, and fatigue could be a factor against the lightning-quick Washington forwards. Gritty shot-blocker Ryan Callahan is out for at least the first round and others will have to step up if they want to beat the series-favorite Capitals.

The Capitals will garner most of the attention on the NHL betting lines in the second game as well. New York and Washington trended to UNDER bettors in totals betting the majority of the time during the regular season and it could be a safe wager in Game 2.

Detroit will try to take a two-game lead in their best-of-seven first-round Western Conference series when they host the road underdog Phoenix Coyotes in NHL betting action on Saturday.

The Red Wings are listed as a -170 favorite at Sportsbook.ag for Game 2 at Joe Louis Arena. They defeated the Coyotes 4-2 in Game 1 in what has become a bit of a postseason rivalry, with some nastiness displayed in the series opener.

Detroit holds the edge head-to-head and eliminated Phoenix from the playoffs last season. The Red Wings are tough in their own building against opponents - but the Coyotes have three victories there in the last two seasons, including one victory in the Motor City this season.

The Red Wings are favored to take a commanding lead heading into the desert for Games 3 and 4, but the Coyotes have solid goaltending and a deep roster that grinds out wins. That could make the Coyotes a good underdog wager in a long series against Detroit.

Three of the last four head-to-head have made winners of OVER bettors in totals wagering.
