Rangers Devils Series Betting Preview

It should be quite a battle along both sides of the Hudson River when the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils clash in the Eastern Conference Finals starting Monday night at Madison Square Garden.

WilliamHill.com is chalking New York as a -140 moneyline favorite for Monday's series opener (8 pm Eastern, NBCS, CBC), with New Jersey getting +120 as the underdog. And the 'over/under' is pegged at 4.5 goals.

WilliamHill is also listing the Rangers at +230 on the Game 1 puck line, with the Devils giving -270 getting the goal and a half.

Looking a little more long-term WilliamHill is lining New York at -150 to win this series, with New Jersey getting +130.

The Rangers won the Atlantic Division this season while the Devils finished fourth, but these teams were only seven points apart in the final standings.

And these teams split six games during the regular season.

The Devils entered the playoffs as the six seed in the East, then beat the Florida Panthers in their first-round series, rallying from down three games to two to win Games 6 and 7.

New Jersey then spotted the Philadelphia Flyers the first game of their conference semifinals series, then won four straight. The Devils put Philly out of its misery with a 3-1 victory last Tuesday.

Including a six-game winning streak to end the regular season New Jersey has won 14 of its last 18 games.

The Devils are in the conference finals for the first time since 2003.

The top-seeded Rangers, meanwhile, needed seven games to take care of eighth-seeded Ottawa in the first round, then went the distance with the Washington Capitals in the conference semis, finally taking that series with a 2-1 grinder Saturday night.

Including a 1-3 finish to their regular season the Blueshirts are just 9-9 over their last 18 games.

The Rangers are in the conference finals for the first time since 1997.

New York outscored New Jersey in the six-game season series 14-11.

Game 2 will be played Wednesday night also at MSG (8 pm Eastern, NBCS, CBC), before the series moves to Jersey for Games 3 and 4 Saturday and next Monday.
