Red Wings Favorite Over Flames

Calgary only trails Detroit by a single point for the last playoff spot in the East and beating the Red Wings in their house will not be easy, as they are only 2-8 in their last 10 games in Detroit.

Calgary Flames (32-24-9 73 points) at Detroit Red Wings (31-22-12 74 points)

Bovada has a moneyline for this game with the Red Wings as the favorite posted at -190 with the Flames at +160 and a total of 5.5 goals.

This season Detroit is 17-9-5 at home and Calgary is 16-9-6 on the road.

In their last games the Flames beat the Minnesota Wild 5-2 on Sunday and the Red Wings looked good in beating the Chicago Blackhawks 5-4 also on Sunday.

Both of these teams has won 2 in a row and each has almost the same record in their last 10 games, as Detroit is 5-3-2 and the Flames are 5-4-1.

Calgary has to win with their defense, as they only rank 27th in the league in scoring (2.51 goals per game). However, they did score 5 goals in their last game and captain Jarome Iginla had a hat trick in the game and leads the Flames in goals (30), assists (32), and points (62). In an interesting fact Iginla has not scored a goal in his last 19 games against Detroit.

The anchor of the solid Calgary defense is G Miikka Kiprusoff (28 wins 2.22 GAA save percentage 92.2%) and he will back between the pipes tonight after getting a rest in the Flames last game. He is 4-2-0 with a 2.31 GAA in his last six starts against the Red Wings.

The Red Wings offense, which ranks 18th in the league in scoring (2.63 goals per game) has been playing well lately scoring 16 goals in their last 4 games including 5 each in their last 2 games.

One player the Calgary D really has to key on is Pavel Datsyuk, who leads Detroit in goals (19), assists (36), and points (55). Detroit plays team offense, as they do not have one player that ranks in the top 40 in the league in goals.

Detroit G Jimmy Howard (24 wins 2.37 GAA save percentage 92.4%) will not be facing a high scoring Calagary offense, but he will still have to play well tonight, especially against Jarome Iginla.

Calgary is only 2-6 in their last eight road games.
